previous 1/10 next 3/10  Gęsina 1 - 7 Brandunion (392574139)

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 768 to Camp now Gęsina Arena. Benedetto Rossi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Mads Rode and Gianluigi Sasso. Gęsina had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. They fielded: Lavandeira - Ommeslag, Papalakis, Pitner, Tuzzato - Kosmalski, Elleried, Romanowski, Łaszczewski - Constantin, Levante.

Brandunion started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Lineup: Galdeano - Playà, Romaní, Summers - Cortial, Kaiser, Morente, Ivern, Rocha - Bassas, Chana.

Gęsina showed off their creative tactics. Brandunion took the lead 8 minutes into the game, making the score 0 - 1 after some elegant movement down the middle. J. Bassas was the scorer. The visitors added to their lead 11 minutes into the game, after a sensational penalty kick by Brandunion's J. Bassas slid just past the home keeper. 0 - 2. By now, the players in Brandunion felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. P. Cortial increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 3. A. Rocha was, after 20 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper E. Lavandeira made the save. After 29 minutes, Brandunion's J. Bassas burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 4. At that, J. Bassas was noted down for a hat trick! Halftime score was 0 - 4. Brandunion had most of the ball, with 85 percent of possession.

After 46 minutes, Gęsina switched E. Levante with G. Roland, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. After 56 minutes, a long pass from Brandunion's N. Romaní caught the defence out of position. P. Cortial collected the ball, and with the goal at his mercy calmly rolled the ball just inside the post. 0 - 5. With 71 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed I. Morente of Brandunion to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 6. J. Łaszczewski's early cross saw the defenders caught out of position and the alert G. Roland was able to pounce and roll the ball past the hapless goalkeeper to score for Gęsina. 1 - 6. E. Lavandeira got a fingertip on A. Rocha's shot from the left 73 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. With 78 minutes played, Brandunion put themselves up 1 - 7 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was J. Bassas. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Brandunion, with 86 percent of the ball.

G. Roland performed admirably for Gęsina. W. Kosmalski on the other hand, had a terrible day. Brandunion's top performer was clearly J. Ivern. E. Playà was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 7.
