previous 9/10 next 1/10  International 4 - 2 Confort (392599142)

Clouds darkened the skies at Peppino "Magic" Prisco IX Arena as 27332 spectators turned up for the match. Walter Buge was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Todd Parry and Ernst Payer. International decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. The following players took the field: La Spina - Oleggini, Franzosi, Caterisi, Pieraccini - Heuberger, Ramov, Yüksek, Juřena - Bernegger, Bello.

Confort tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Lineup: Bargiacchi - Giovani, Rocchia, Bridelli - Zaoral, Di Nardo, Ardistio, Scalas, Nugnes - Romano, Cacace.

A well placed corner kick from P. Giovani was followed by M. Ardistio's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Confort, the score now 0 - 1. International's A. Oleggini put his head to a high ball coming in from the right after 17 minutes, but the ball went wide. A. Oleggini of International was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. International put pressure on the visitors' central defence 26 minutes into the game, but J. Bello couldn't find an opening. J. Heuberger neatly controlled the ball after a short corner, and knocked it on to S. Bernegger who had the whole net open before him, but only managed to hit the post. With 35 minutes gone, J. Ramov suddenly found himself completely free on the right wing when a counterattack by International caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring. With 36 minutes having been played, International scored to make it 1 - 1. A dribble down the left wing, followed by a shot which took a wicked bounce off a defender resulted in the keeper having no chance. Everyone thought it'd been an own goal, but S. Bernegger was marked down as the scorer. With 38 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience, A. Caterisi needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed. 39 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but A. Cacace, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide. They were singing the praises of J. Ramov 41 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 2 - 1 to International. S. Bernegger of International received a yellow card after 42 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. 43 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as İ. Yüksek broke through, making the score 3 - 1 for International. The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 1. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by International, with 54 percent of the ball.

International managed to extend their lead to 4 - 1 when V. Juřena cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. Confort breathed new life into the game with an opportunity to reduce the score after 49 minutes, but the home side's defenders cleared the ball on the line, after a long shot coming in from the left rebounded off the crossbar. With 60 minutes played, the Confort coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. J. Wotte came on, E. Bridelli had to leave the fray. Confort needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 65 minutes P. Giovani made way for G. Pavarotti. The visitors' right side was dangerous today; C. Scalas made the home team's keeper look foolish as he easily reduced the lead to make it 4 - 2 70 minutes into the match. The bench was restless, and with 75 minutes passed Confort's coach gave O. Mercatili the opportunity the player had been hoping for. M. Nugnes reluctantly left the field. Neither team was controlling the possession at this point in the match, with the stats showing a 50:50 split.

S. Bernegger performed admirably for International. A. La Spina was a disappointment, however. Most important Confort player was A. Cacace. On the other hand, C. Scalas's play was disheartening. The match ends 4 - 2.
