previous 6/10 next 8/10  Chantilas 3 - 5 Solador (392648766)

Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 31425 at Estadi 24 d'Abril 2010 today. Arnas Karaliunas was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Carlos Eduardo Frias and Johannes Jokinen. A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Chantilas. Lineup: Biarge - Marqués, Serri, Alcarria - Ruuska, Calzada, Suñer, García-Drake - Bidagarai, Brânzea, Aisenberg.

Solador had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. Starters: Huyarramendia - Colomer, Rojanaporntip, Mallo - Almaş, Pajares, Lakovič, Bolívar - Hirschler, Xargay, Manai.

Chantilas used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 7 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from B. Aisenberg, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave N. Serri from Chantilas a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 22 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! The corner kick from D. Almaş was powerfully met by the head of S. Rojanaporntip to make the score 1 - 1. A late sliding challenge from N. Serri was deemed to be his second yellow card offence by the referee, resulting in him being sent off, and Chantilas left a man down. 1 - 1 was the score after the first half. Chantilas enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 51 percent of possession.

The visiting G. Xargay was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 49 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 1 - 2 was the score. After 51 minutes, P. Suñer made a dash down the middle past the away team's defenders to score the goal that made it 2 - 2. Solador's H. Bolívar got himself booked for a foul. The home crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief when W. Hirschler was unable to put the ball in the net after his show of skill down the left 60 minutes into the match. He was seen beating the pitch in frustration at missing such a good chance to give his team the lead! The referee showed Solador's D. Colomer the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Chantilas's I. Bidagarai was shown a yellow card after 64 minutes for slicing down an opponent. H. Bolívar of Solador got sent off for kicking the ball after the whistle, a completely uncalled for move, earning him his second yellow card of the game. Chantilas's D. Brânzea was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 81 minutes. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Chantilas, with 56 percent of the ball.

With the scores being level after 90 minutes, the match went into extra time. Chantilas were very close to putting themselves one up after 93 minutes as A. García-Drake got through on the left, but failing in concentration, he shot the ball wide. At 106 minutes played, A. García-Drake came in from the right with the intention of giving Chantilas the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. There was still no winner after 30 minutes of extra time so the teams had to select a lineup for a penalty shoot-out to settle the result.

Chantilas's D. Brânzea looked like he knew exactly where he wanted to put the ball, but unfortunately his shot went wide of the left hand post. Still 2 - 2. Solador's J. Huyarramendia showed he has nerves of steel when it comes to penalties, easily changing the score to 2 - 3. Chantilas's B. Aisenberg didn't look like he was confident as he stepped up, and produced a badly struck penalty - right into the arms of J. Huyarramendia. The score remained 2 - 3. Solador's G. Xargay looked nervous even as he was putting the ball on the spot. He didn't take much of a run up, and his weak shot was easily saved by the keeper. Chantilas's I. Bidagarai cockily booted the ball with a short-and-fast instep. The penalty, going just wide of the mark, didn't produce a goal. A confident F. Manai of Solador put the ball right where he wanted, but F. Biarge was right there for the save. No goal. Chantilas's M. Ruuska was relaxed as he smoothly put the ball in the net. 3 - 3! The crowd was awed by W. Hirschler's finely placed shot for Solador making it 3 - 4. Chantilas's P. Suñer penalty shot was very well placed but J. Huyarramendia went the right way, blocking it spectacularly. The score was still 3 - 4. Solador's D. Lakovič coolly put the ball past F. Biarge. 3 - 5. D. Calzada performed admirably for Chantilas. However, M. Ruuska made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating Solador player was without a doubt J. Huyarramendia. F. Manai was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 5.
