26000 spectators had come to
The Big Bang Arena this cloudy day.
Maciej Piłtorak was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Javier Velastegui and
Rob Iser.
Bang had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation.
Starters: Purnal - Goorhuis, de Vinck, Angenot, Ghellynck, Afonso Correia - Piccin, Phúc Niên, Fritz, Maggio - Lowagie.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Katmandoe.
The following players had been chosen: Van Erps - Heyrman, Persson, Gastea - Maegerman, Petit, Cerofolini, Van Ael, Strebelle - Belokuzov, Kamp.
It was obvious that Bang were using their pressing skill as their primary tactic.
J. Purnal looked great 3 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors'
A. Strebelle.
At this time in the match, Bang were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game.
The home crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief when
S. Kamp was unable to put the ball in the net after his show of skill down the left 29 minutes into the match. He was seen beating the pitch in frustration at missing such a good chance to give his team the lead!
After 32 minutes, Katmandoe sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached
V. Belokuzov, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 0 - 1.
Halftime score was 0 - 1.
Katmandoe had most of the ball, with 59 percent of possession.
Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Bang's
J. Purnal was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 46 minutes.
D. Guendica was given a chance to change things around.
Some things can only be learned through experience, and
A. Afonso Correia should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Katmandoe a goal with 53 minutes of the match played.
Katmandoe increased their lead after 68 minutes when
V. Belokuzov broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 2, much to the home crowd's dismay.
Bang needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 70 minutes
J. Goorhuis made way for
I. Wuzik.
After 75 minutes, Bang switched
N. Phúc Niên with
J. Dénes, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch.
D. Guendica became the new Bang captain.
76 minutes into the game a free kick by
E. Persson found its way through the home side's poorly assembled defensive formation, making Katmandoe's lead 0 - 3.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Katmandoe lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
A drive down the left side allowed
G. Maegerman to get in close and score another goal for Katmandoe after 82 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 4.
After 87 minutes, Katmandoe's
E. Persson burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 5.
With 87 minutes played, Katmandoe put themselves up 0 - 6 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was
A. Heyrman.
E. Cerofolini of Katmandoe received a yellow card after 88 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Katmandoe claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 62 percent.
The most dominating Bang player was without a doubt
J. Fritz.
I. Wuzik turned in a dismal performance, however.
S. Kamp performed admirably for Katmandoe.
X. Van Ael on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 0 - 6.
