previous 9/10 next 1/10  FCSB 1 - 7 Ungheni (392676086)

32701 punters turned up at FC Lopatnic Arena, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Sipke Daemen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ingemar Wibaut and Emílio Moreira. Everyone was excited about the upcoming Chişinău derby and the crowd was divided evenly. FCSB tactics involved an interesting 3-4-3 combination. Lineup: Sobot - Jennings, Zbinden, Vattuone - Sanmartín, Polvani, Ben Brahim, Gegentor - Zwanenburg, Beker, Casapu.

Ungheni decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. Starters: Kneissl - Gîndea, Bucher, Pagliaro, Schierstedt - Yu, Bogaert, Guiducci, Lallena - Lucena, de Bont.

FCSB were very close to putting themselves one up after 2 minutes as M. Casapu got through on the left, but failing in concentration, he shot the ball wide. E. Sobot looked great 9 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors' C. Pagliaro. With 23 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending. R. Yu put the ball away for 0 - 1. With 24 minutes played, C. Pagliaro of Ungheni fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. Ungheni increased their lead after 26 minutes when J. Lucena broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 2, much to the home crowd's dismay. M. Beker did everything he could to get one back for his FCSB, but keeper J. Kneissl denied him with a spectacular block. A scuffle developed as players from both sides clashed following a tussle in the centre of the field 29 minutes into the match. After regaining order and consulting his linesman, the referee called FCSB's T. Jennings to one side and produced a red card for the player. R. Schierstedt of Ungheni had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game. A. Pradas came in to finish the match. C. Guiducci of Ungheni took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 31 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 3. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave L. Vattuone from FCSB a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 34 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Halftime score was 0 - 3. Possession in this half belonged to Ungheni, who controlled the ball 59 percent of the time.

In the lead, Ungheni adjusted their style of play with 70 minutes gone. J. Lucena came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over E. Sobot but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. The Ungheni players could smell victory in the air. G. Bogaert wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for M. Pissa after 75 minutes. FCSB's H. Zbinden placed the ball right at his teammate's feet after a corner, but F. Ben Brahim couldn't finish. A drive down the left side allowed I. Lallena to get in close and score another goal for Ungheni after 80 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 4. By now, the players in Ungheni felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. Ungheni's C. Guiducci was shown a yellow card after 81 minutes for slicing down an opponent. F. Ben Brahim was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so FCSB's J. Samoilă had to come off the bench. After 83 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave M. Pissa a chance to increase the lead for Ungheni, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 5. H. Zbinden seemed to be huffing and puffing 87 minutes into the match. J. Lucena of Ungheni took advantage of his obvious fatigue to chip in past the keeper. 0 - 6 After 87 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for E. Gîndea who increased Ungheni's lead to 0 - 7. FCSB's fans were urging them forward as they tried to get back into the game, and their vocal support was rewarded 88 minutes into the match as V. Zwanenburg ran onto a beautiful ball played through the visitors' defence and slotted it past the keeper to reduce the deficit. 1 - 7. Ungheni claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 59 percent.

FCSB's best player was V. Zwanenburg. However, J. Samoilă made a disastrous appearance. Most important Ungheni player was J. Lucena. On the other hand, A. Pradas's play was disheartening. The match ends 1 - 7.
