previous 5/10 next 7/10  UNICORN 2 - 1 Rybnik (392682963)

It had rained all day, but 21352 hardy fans still made it out to UNICORN Arena. Alfredo Álvarez was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Bèla Steyrer and Michael Gooch. A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for UNICORN. Starters: Nousuniemi - Maszejko, Escandón, Ogiński - Szmulski, Ruiz, Ordóñez, Fernández Landa, Oleski - Verbiest, Karres.

Rybnik started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players took the field: Rivadavia - Sobol, Schneider, Székely - Kaysel, Wantulok, Wikhult, Alcalde, Gajáry - catalán de Ocón, Mustapirtti.

K. Székely neatly controlled the ball after a short corner, and knocked it on to A. Kaysel who had the whole net open before him, but only managed to hit the post. The game was characterised by rough play and many physical challenges on the wet field, but C. Escandón showed great heart and had a good game. They were singing the praises of B. Karres 41 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to UNICORN. 1 - 0 was the halftime score. UNICORN enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 60 percent of possession.

The bench was restless, and with 60 minutes passed Rybnik's coach gave T. Domaradzki the opportunity the player had been hoping for. T. Wikhult reluctantly left the field. Rybnik needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 60 minutes B. Schneider made way for D. Caio. J. Verbiest should probably have put his team up another goal after 60 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by A. Rivadavia kept the visitors in the game. UNICORN's J. Verbiest saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 61 minutes. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Rybnik's S. catalán de Ocón was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 70 minutes. M. Kluza was given a chance to change things around. The visitors' J. Mustapirtti was alert after a cross coming in from the left, levelling the score at 1 - 1 after 74 minutes. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by UNICORN, with 57 percent of the ball.

Still tied after 90 minutes, the match continued into extra time. UNICORN had to make a substitution after 103 minutes. C. Ordóñez limped off the field and was replaced by D. Rohde. B. Fernández Landa caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 106 minutes. This gave UNICORN the 2 - 1 lead. Game over, UNICORN win! Most important UNICORN player was B. Karres. C. Escandón on the other hand, had a terrible day. M. Kluza performed admirably for Rybnik. However, A. Kaysel made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 2 - 1.
