previous 6/10 next 8/10  Garca 0 - 2 GERMAN (392705740)

The 15789 spectators at The Garcas Garden were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Michael Luther was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Silvio Proto and Edward Nosal. Garca tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Bob - Aribau, Tellquist, Hansen - Euclides, Méndez, Pedernera, Gallet, Tallac - Németh, Miglonico.

GERMAN had chosen a strategic 5-3-2 formation. Starters: Månsson - Arconada, Gauthier, Cañete, Sánchez, Cadamuro - Arias, Gilad, Navascuez - Keeling, Gozlan.

Garca seemed to prefer attacking in the middle. GERMAN clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. It was obvious that team Garca had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. GERMAN were able to mount several counterattacks, such as the impressive one after 40 minutes, but R. Gilad lofted a free kick over the crossbar. After 43 minutes Garca's C. Gallet contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game. 0 - 0 was the halftime score. Garca enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 63 percent of possession.

Good work by the GERMAN defensive line after 62 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found M. Cadamuro alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Garca, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. The referee showed GERMAN's E. Gozlan the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Garca had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. With the clock showing 75 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of GERMAN resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by R. Gilad in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. GERMAN earned themselves a free kick after a counterattack wasn't dealt with adequately by their opponents. R. Gilad powered the shot in for 0 - 1. M. Sánchez increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 2. At this point, it was obvious that the players of GERMAN lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. R. Navascuez was ever so close to scoring after an excellent corner was beautifully flicked on by L. Arias, but the ball bounced off the post to safety. Garca claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 67 percent.

I. Pedernera performed admirably for Garca. T. Méndez turned in a dismal performance, however. GERMAN's best player was G. Cañete. D. Månsson on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 2.
