With 34 minutes played, the visitors could have drawn level after P. Strallhofer came through the middle, but his kick went wide. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Gevelsberg, with 54 percent of the ball.

With 50 minutes played, H. Grygiel came in from the right and could have evened the score, but the defenders successfully repelled the attack by Gevelsberg. Gevelsberg were close to putting the equaliser away after 51 minutes as the opposing defence lost control of the ball to D. Serrallonga in a scuffle towards the left of the goal, but in the end the ball was cleared over the dead ball line. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Seagulls's S. Jajić increasing the lead to 2 - 0. After 61 minutes of play, Gevelsberg's X. Marzullo unexpectedly struck an inside out ball from no angle at all and P. Duville slotted it into the net for 2 - 1. Gevelsberg claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 57 percent.
