The crowd of 25091 turning up at
SV Schierstein 13 Arena today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain.
Bernard Gautschi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Eustachy Barteczko and
Simone Corrocher.
Schierstein had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Starters: Tatzel - Fahrhauer, Breyther, Laggenbeck - Gans, Scheinhart, Mühlbachtal, Suster, Solms - Aglaster, Haase.
Preußen decided to use a 2-5-3 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Baiona - Winteler, Darmon - Amato, Tsiroyiannis, Zehentmeier, Kade, Arninkhof - Lambardi, Tuvshinsaihan, Zgirskis.
Schierstein seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.
1 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Preußen substitution.
D. Talbro came on for
A. Tsiroyiannis.
T. Arninkhof had a good opportunity to give Preußen the lead as he charged down the right and struck the ball towards the top corner, but the home team's goalkeeper made the save.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
N. Winteler from Preußen a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 30 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
31 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but
G. Zgirskis, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide.
36 minutes into the match Schierstein's
M. Solms viciously shoved another player from behind while going for a loose ball and was sent off the pitch with a red card.
Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 37 minutes into the match, and
G. Zgirskis wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors.
T. Suster behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 39 minutes as he gave the ball away to
A. Kade. Lucky for him though, there was no goal.
A. Kade increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 2.
The referee showed Schierstein's
L. Scheinhart the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
0 - 2 was the score after the first half.
Preußen claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.
The game was characterised by rough play and many physical challenges on the wet field, but
H. Aglaster showed great heart and had a good game.
The visitors'
B. Darmon took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 58 minutes into the match. 0 - 3 for Preußen.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Preußen lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
Preußen's
G. Zgirskis was shown a yellow card after 65 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
After 66 minutes,
T. Arninkhof sent the corner kick right to
C. Lambardi who headed it sharply past the keeper. 0 - 4!
With 70 minutes played,
A. Zehentmeier of Preußen fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
There was concern in the stands when, at the 72 minute mark, Schierstein's
L. Scheinhart hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch.
Schierstein's
J. Fahrhauer had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 75 minutes having been played.
M. Kleinkind was the replacement.
As the captain was no longer on the pitch,
H. Haase took over the role of being the Schierstein captain.
The home side worked hard to get through the middle and as a result, had a good chance of getting one back as
H. Aglaster tried lifting the ball over keeper
D. Baiona. Unfortunately, the ball went just over the bar.
The game was close to savage at times, and Preußen's
A. Zehentmeier received a second yellow card after 77 minutes; his ticket out of the game.
L. Scheinhart was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so Schierstein's
B. Feix had to come off the bench.
The Preußen coach was visibly pleased with the score so far, but still ordered a few tactical changes 78 minutes into the game.
Schierstein's
W. Mühlbachtal was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 83 minutes.
The coach of Preußen was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 88 minutes,
R. Hoffnungsthal came on for
B. Darmon.
The Preußen players could smell victory in the air.
T. Arninkhof wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
M. Toscani after 89 minutes.
Schierstein enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 52 percent of possession.
H. Aglaster performed admirably for Schierstein.
On the other hand,
M. Kleinkind's play was disheartening.
The most dominating Preußen player was without a doubt
C. Lambardi.
M. Toscani on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 0 - 4.
