Many thought H. Kiesl ought to have been awarded a penalty 19 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around O. Apitius after a determined run through the middle. United took the lead after 24 minutes making the score 0 - 1. S. Jakl placed the ball out of reach for the home side's keeper after a fine move, coming in from the left. Several players seemed a little dazed by the warm weather, and were repeatedly tricked by the clever and agile S. Jakl. After 30 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed H. Muschelschubser to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from T. Lukas after 33 minutes, and prevented United from going up another goal. PURPLE's E. Potzel found himself alone on the left side 34 minutes into the match and laid down a perfect shot - right into the arms of the keeper! Had it not been for one of the home defenders, P. Di Tullio would have put United up another goal 37 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing. H. Deloffre increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 3. By now, the players in United felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. 0 - 3 was the halftime score. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by United, with 62 percent of the ball.

The home crowd was not impressed when S. Jakl came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 50 minutes. United were now up 0 - 4. With 52 minutes played, United's S. Jakl missed a penalty when the keeper made a premature dive in the right direction, and palmed the ball out of the way. L. Dünzl got a fingertip on H. Deloffre's shot from the left 57 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. With 58 minutes gone, D. Tittmansdorf suddenly found himself completely free on the right wing when a counterattack by PURPLE caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring. D. Cappelletti didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play. D. Cappelletti came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over L. Dünzl but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. PURPLE didn't give in and with 72 minutes played G. Reinders was able to make the score 1 - 4 after an attack on the right. United claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 62 percent.

PURPLE's best player was G. Reinders. G. Finger turned in a dismal performance, however. United's top performer was clearly S. Jakl. On the other hand, F. Fricke's play was disheartening. The match ends 1 - 4.
