Dark skies made the crowd of 39442 at
Estadio do Azzardo a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Bastian Gillner was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Ireneusz Zgliński and
David Sohn.
A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Dinamo.
The following players took the field: Fajardo - Rivale, Mangiacavalli, Maly - Bergwerff, Saccucci, Greimel, Etzensberger - Menachem, Quadrio Aristarchi, Kostysz.
Smilzi started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
The following players had been chosen: Pablo - Olskiy, Rocchi, Fanelli - Pentassuglia, Barba, Chiriatti, Bonifaci, Peetermans - Gianfranceschi, Scrofolo.
P. Quadrio Aristarchi's speed was clear to see after 2 minutes, as he darted down the wing and released
Y. Menachem who placed the ball into the back of the net to make the score 1 - 0.
W. Peetermans made a run for the goal 12 minutes into the game but the home team's left back managed to sort the situation out in the end.
21 minutes into the match the visitors levelled the score at 1 - 1 as
A. Barba struck home from a rebound off the crossbar, following a shot from the right.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
R. Chiriatti from Smilzi a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 28 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
W. Peetermans made a nice dash down the wing after 33 minutes, but was unable to get the cross into the box. A goal kick was awarded.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 1.
Smilzi claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 59 percent.
77 minutes into the game,
L. Gianfranceschi was a hair's breadth away from giving Smilzi the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by
E. Fajardo saved the home team that time.
After 80 minutes, the Smilzi coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
A. Barba off the field.
M. Maisetti took his place.
85 minutes into the game,
W. Peetermans had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide.
With the scoreboard clock showing 87 minutes, the inexperienced Smilzi team fell into disarray.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Smilzi, with 59 percent of the ball.
With the scores being level after 90 minutes, the match went into extra time.
A review of the gameplan helped Smilzi get back to a
solid organisation when the referee blew his whistle again.
The guests almost went up by a goal after 96 minutes when
W. Peetermans came through and shot from the right. The ball bounced harmlessly off the post, though.
100 minutes into the match, Smilzi nearly took the lead, as
R. Chiriatti broke through on the right.
E. Fajardo made the save, however.
105 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but
P. Bonifaci, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide.
The result was still a draw, so the match had to be settled with penalties.
Dinamo's
S. Maly kept his cool as he faced down
A. Pablo. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 2 - 1.
Smilzi's
L. Gianfranceschi drove the ball hard to the corner but couldn't get it past the outstretched arm of
E. Fajardo. The score remains 2 - 1.
Dinamo's
P. Quadrio Aristarchi coolly put the ball past
A. Pablo. 3 - 1.
Oooh - how unlucky! Smilzi's
G. Fanelli attempt hit the underside of the bar, but rebounded down into the grateful arms of
E. Fajardo. The score stays 3 - 1.
Dinamo's
G. Saccucci made no mistake.
A. Pablo didn't have a chance. 4 - 1.
Smilzi's
A. Pablo showed he has nerves of steel when it comes to penalties, easily changing the score to 4 - 2.
Dinamo's
B. Bergwerff was relaxed as he smoothly put the ball in the net. 5 - 2!
Smilzi's
R. Pentassuglia looked like he knew exactly where he wanted to put the ball, but unfortunately his shot went wide of the left hand post. Still 5 - 2.
Dinamo's
D. Mangiacavalli kept his cool as he faced down
A. Pablo. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 6 - 2.
Smilzi's
M. Maisetti appeared to lose his focus as he laid down an easy shot.
E. Fajardo's concentration wasn't any better however, as the ball passed him on the right for 6 - 3.
Most important Dinamo player was
P. Quadrio Aristarchi.
However,
M. Kostysz made a disastrous appearance.
Smilzi's best player was
A. Scrofolo.
L. Gianfranceschi turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 6 - 3.
