previous 6/10 next 8/10  Australia 0 - 6 Bamboozles (392829805)

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 7000 to Western Australia Road. Markus Mæland was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Velasco López and Mikael Eriksson. Australia tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players took the field: Othman - Goodall, Whitaker, Saa, Williamson - Irons, Patel, Hayes, Armitage - Rickard, Wise.

Bamboozles started off with a 2-5-2 lineup. Starters: Packer - Thain, Arnott - Mansour, Castiñeira, McDougall, Johncock, Fitzgibbon - Larkin, Ruhinda.

After 16 minutes, Bamboozles put themselves up 0 - 1, as L. Fitzgibbon finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. A. Castiñeira of Bamboozles took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 19 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 2. By now, the players in Bamboozles felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. Bamboozles increased their lead after 31 minutes when R. Thain broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay. 34 minutes into the game, Bamboozles seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to weak. After 36 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed A. Castiñeira to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 4. It was 0 - 4 at the break. Bamboozles claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 61 percent.

The Bamboozles players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a solid organisation when the game started again. With 52 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed L. Fitzgibbon of Bamboozles to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 5. A drive down the left side allowed A. Castiñeira to get in close and score another goal for Bamboozles after 71 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 6. At that, A. Castiñeira was noted down for a hat trick! 75 minutes in, Bamboozles appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only inadequate. With 78 minutes played, C. Goodall's free kick looked like a certain goal for Australia, but to his teammates' dismay, the keeper managed to tip it wide. The referee showed Bamboozles's R. McDougall the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Bamboozles enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 62 percent of possession.

Australia's top performer was clearly I. Saa. N. Othman was a disappointment, however. The most dominating Bamboozles player was without a doubt A. Mansour. C. Packer turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 0 - 6.
