(392854027)

04-07-2012 13.45
Clear skies welcomed the 38660 spectators who had made their way to
Eifonic Latvia Arena.
Laust Madsen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Loïc Besset and
Murray Conochie.
All of
Rīga was shut down for the day, as fans of both clubs came to the derby.
Eifonic had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation.
The following players took the field: Lemarcq - Lipert, Kallmann - van der Giessen, Kausche, Vizcarra, Séguret, Niciak - Proença, Katajavuori, Dīzenbergs.
Rusty decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Stan - Karamperis, Kaczmarski, Paleari, Giménez - Vergnault, Young, Panes, Aybek - Začs, Vilkens.
Eifonic mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle.
Eifonic made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in on the right hand side left
N. Proença completely alone with keeper
C. Stan, who made a spectacular block.
Eifonic broke through on the left 27 minutes into the game, with
S. Niciak firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead.
Cheers filled the stadium as
G. Séguret broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to Eifonic.
The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0.
Eifonic had most of the ball, with 54 percent of possession.
R. Vizcarra increased the lead for Eifonic to 3 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
Eifonic solidified their lead at the 68 minute mark, as
N. Proença dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 4 - 0.
The players of Eifonic now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
The Eifonic free kick 70 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of
N. Proença, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 5 - 0!
77 minutes into the game, Rusty had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to
weak.
Eifonic's
S. Niciak showed his experience after 81 minutes, as he expertly set himself up to take advantage of a rebound off the crossbar, but his shot was tipped harmlessly out of the way.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
G. Séguret squirmed through their central defence after 85 minutes, increasing the lead to 6 - 0.
C. Kaczmarski of Rusty received a yellow card after 88 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
89 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
N. Proença broke through, making the score 7 - 0 for Eifonic.
By then
N. Proença had scored three goals - a hat trick!
J. Katajavuori of Eifonic seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 8 - 0 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by
R. Kallmann.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Eifonic's
S. Niciak increasing the lead to 9 - 0.
Possession in this half belonged to Eifonic, who controlled the ball 62 percent of the time.
Eifonic's top performer was clearly
G. Séguret.
R. Lemarcq turned in a dismal performance, however.
The most dominating Rusty player was without a doubt
V. Panes.
On the other hand,
P. Giménez's play was disheartening.
The match ends 9 - 0.
