25000 fans braved the pouring rain at MFC Arena. Jonathan Quinn was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Norbert Lovas and Manuel Deppen. Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this Metropolitana derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents. Masters started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. They fielded: Mesías - Dempster, Pühringer, Remédio - Gueba, Blot, Vermehren, Schreier, Fevre - Enebrant, Sarabia.

Máquina had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation. The following players took the field: Liker - Bonetti, Rieff - Buchenhain, Rasmussen, Oswald, Cannavaro, Molinier - Aros, Fernandes, Merdassi.

P. Aros slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today. Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 8 minutes into the match left Máquina's K. Buchenhain completely free to score. 0 - 1 for the visitors. T. Oswald received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 10 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 2. The Máquina fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. The Máquina free kick 19 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of O. Rieff, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 0 - 3! J. Borysiuk was called on to replace Masters's F. Mesías after 22 minutes following a nasty collision. It was 0 - 3 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Máquina, with 61 percent of the ball.

With 58 minutes gone, Máquina had a free kick in a decent position. Despite this being a great chance for a shot, they tried a cheeky move intended to bypass the defence. However, S. Cannavaro did not manage to connect with it cleanly and the ball went out. Masters's P. Enebrant left the field after 59 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was P. Rivas. The Máquina players could smell victory in the air. L. Molinier wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for F. Zarza after 75 minutes. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Máquina coach let S. Mascherano replace B. Liker after 75 minutes. The home crowd was not impressed when A. Fernandes came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 80 minutes. Máquina were now up 0 - 4. After this, you could see that the players of Máquina were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. A drive down the left side allowed S. Cannavaro to get in close and score another goal for Máquina after 82 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 5. Masters didn't give in and with 84 minutes played P. Rivas was able to make the score 1 - 5 after an attack on the right. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave K. Buchenhain from Máquina a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 85 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! 86 minutes into the match, the speedy P. Aros easily outpaced D. Pühringer, chipped the keeper and made the score 1 - 6. Máquina claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 56 percent.

Masters's best player was B. Schreier. P. Rivas on the other hand, had a terrible day. Máquina's top performer was clearly K. Buchenhain. S. Mascherano turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 1 - 6.
