previous 7/10 next 9/10  Masters 6 - 3 Winzi (392878542)

52601 spectators had found their way to Mítico Huetar, despite the heavy rain. Ali Okakın was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Paulo Casal and Pigmalionas Grammatikopoulos. A 5-4-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Masters. The following players took the field: Sabia - Vega, Tığlı, Acuña, Baltodano, Schneider - Canac, Baranes, Gaya, Ríos - Zůna.

Winzi decided to use a 4-5-1 set up. Lineup: Duder - van der Hilst, 润敏 (Runmin) , Claro, Myrland - Zuijderwijk, Romero, Franciolini, Bell, Ortíz - Peralta.

Against a lesser team, Winzi could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 5 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save. N. Ortíz was uncomfortable with the soggy pitch as he couldn't move the ball around with his usual grace. Masters's T. Schneider got himself booked for a foul. T. Myrland was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so Winzi's T. Skřivánek had to come off the bench. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 0. Possession in this half belonged to Winzi, who controlled the ball 58 percent of the time.

After 50 minutes, the Masters coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving A. Vega off the field. H. Henneberg took his place. Winzi's 蔡. 润敏 (Runmin) managed to lose the defenders as he advanced down the right wing and scored, putting the visitors ahead after 51 minutes. 0 - 1. After a short break after 65 minutes, Winzi seemed to change their tactical approach a bit. After 66 minutes, Masters switched I. Gaya with O. Urbschat, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. M. Ríos was the new captain of Masters - handed the armband by the departing player. J. Acuña did not have a good day today, often losing his footing on the muddy pitch. With 74 minutes played, the Masters coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. R. Schneider came on, V. Canac had to leave the fray. The Masters coach was desperate to reverse his team's fortunes in the game, and ordered his team to change strategy. F. Zůna of Masters seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 1 - 1 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by M. Ríos. As the 84 minute mark approached, the Winzi coach decided it was time for a substitution. R. Claro reluctantly made way for A. Elizondo on the pitch. With the match clock at 84 minutes, Masters modified their style of play a little bit. L. Sabia looked great 86 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors' K. van der Hilst. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Winzi, with 54 percent of the ball.

As neither team was able to break the deadlock before the end of regular play, the teams took to the field again for extra time. 93 minutes into the game, A. Elizondo was a hair's breadth away from giving Winzi the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by L. Sabia saved the home team that time. When V. Baltodano left the game because of a back injury after 103 minutes, Masters had to continue a man short due to there being no available replacements. The referee showed Masters's N. Baranes the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. After extra time, the game was still tied and a penalty shoot-out ensued.

Masters's M. Ríos showed he has nerves of steel when it comes to penalties, easily changing the score to 2 - 1. Winzi's 蔡. 润敏 (Runmin) kept his cool as he faced down L. Sabia. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 2 - 2. Masters's T. Schneider made no mistake. K. Duder didn't have a chance. 3 - 2. Winzi's H. Peralta coolly put the ball past L. Sabia. 3 - 3. Masters's D. Tığlı coolly put the ball past K. Duder. 4 - 3. Winzi's N. Ortíz looked like he knew exactly where he wanted to put the ball, but unfortunately his shot went wide of the left hand post. Still 4 - 3. Masters's J. Acuña was relaxed as he smoothly put the ball in the net. 5 - 3! Winzi's L. Zuijderwijk didn't look like he was confident as he stepped up, and produced a badly struck penalty - right into the arms of L. Sabia. The score remained 5 - 3. Masters's N. Baranes showed he has nerves of steel when it comes to penalties, easily changing the score to 6 - 3. Winzi's R. Bell looked nervous even as he was putting the ball on the spot. He didn't take much of a run up, and his weak shot was easily saved by the keeper. Masters's best player was O. Urbschat. L. Sabia was a disappointment, however. R. Bell performed admirably for Winzi. However, K. Duder made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 6 - 3.
