50966 spectators arrived at
Junior Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.
Jeanloup Pategay was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Loek Pavey and
Álvaro Manrique Coto.
All of
Montevideo was shut down for the day, as fans of both clubs came to the derby.
Junior started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
They fielded: Börjesson - Hilling, Rochnowski, de Bevere - Chini, Hanss, Rask, Abreu, Márquez - Calças, Levie.
xeneize had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation.

Junior mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle.
12 minutes into the game,
G. Castellino almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar.
The referee showed Junior's
M. Hilling the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
After 27 minutes, xeneize's
İ. Tüm made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1.
A well placed corner kick from
İ. Tüm was followed by
G. Castellino's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for xeneize, the score now 0 - 2.
Junior's fans were urging them forward as they tried to get back into the game, and their vocal support was rewarded 35 minutes into the match as
M. Chini ran onto a beautiful ball played through the visitors' defence and slotted it past the keeper to reduce the deficit. 1 - 2.
Junior's
M. Levie had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 39 minutes having been played.
I. O'Neill was the replacement.
The home crowd cheered when, after 40 minutes,
D. Solum's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day.
After 42 minutes, xeneize's
M. Schauman burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 3.
The players of xeneize now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.

The xeneize players could smell victory in the air.

J. Lipčák after 81 minutes.
A. Del Curto wanted to play on, but the xeneize coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 86 minutes into the game by
