Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 32000 at Calesita Stadium today. Jyrki Sidbäck was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Francesco Collu and Loïc Ständer. Morante caught everyone by surprise with a unexpected volley after 22 minutes. D. Cuyàs was perfectly placed to take advantage of the play, but unfortunately, he was as surprised as anyone and couldn't finish for Calesita. The visitors' G. Zono took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 38 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for Gimnasia. Della Morte succeed with his speed. When an opportunity appeared for him, as it did 77 minutes into the game, speedy A. Nizzolo came to the rescue and stopped the attack. Gimnasia came close to extending their lead as D. Vives delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 79 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting. 80 minutes in, Calesita's N. Portillo received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. N. Portillo looked like he could fly, as he rose high to head the ball. Unfortunately for Calesita, the ball went just barely wide. After 85 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave F. Della Morte a chance to increase the lead for Gimnasia, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 3. The coach of Gimnasia was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 85 minutes, J. Weinzettel came on for G. Zono. Confident in their lead, Gimnasia's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
