previous 7/10 next 9/10  Salvatierra 4 - 0 Canape (392890103)

Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 1224 at Calzadiense Arena today. Igor Bošković was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jelle Schopman and Eugenio Feliu. Salvatierra started off with a 2-5-3 lineup. Starters: Miller - Corres, Ulleta - Mota, Peña Muñoz, Xercavins, López Soto, Corvera - Olivé, Triana, das Xunqueiras.

Canape tactics involved an interesting 5-3-2 combination. Lineup: Brás - Bachev, de Armas, Costea, Schwanitz, Macià - Gabikagojeaskoa, van Buren, Utrera - Gyllenstrand, Muraglia.

Salvatierra saw most attack opportunities on the wings. It was an obvious ambition of Canape to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. Y. Bachev behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 3 minutes as he gave the ball away to M. Corvera. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. Canape were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings. Salvatierra took the lead 9 minutes in, as A. Peña Muñoz broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. Salvatierra's J. Xercavins increased the lead to 2 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 11 minutes. After 39 minutes, O. Costea made a complete fool of himself when he presented the ball to the feet of M. Corvera who smashed it into the open goal for Salvatierra. 3 - 0. The players of Salvatierra now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. With 40 minutes played, Salvatierra's D. das Xunqueiras almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. Halftime score was 3 - 0. Possession in this half belonged to Salvatierra, who controlled the ball 60 percent of the time.

56 minutes into the game, Canape's attack got through on the right, but S. de Armas couldn't handle the ball and his feeble kick wound up in the keeper's arms. Salvatierra increased the lead as S. Olivé struck to make the score 4 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. It was obvious that Canape had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle. After 75 minutes Canape's L. Muraglia contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game. Salvatierra claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 57 percent.

Salvatierra's best player was S. Olivé. On the other hand, J. Miller's play was disheartening. Canape's top performer was clearly I. Macià. Y. Bachev turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 4 - 0.
