previous 2/10 next 4/10  Santa 1 - 1 Bremen09 (392916627)

It had rained all day, but 1797 hardy fans still made it out to Santa Klan UC Arena. Reint Alderlieste was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Krisztián Mihályi and Drew Humphries. Santa decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. Starters: Lee - Güner, Osnabrück, Gonçalves Silva - Lešnik, Castel, Inglin, Ahi, Ali - Pacci, Gaulsattler.

Bremen09 tactics involved an interesting 5-4-1 combination. They fielded: Alagül - Sichert, Reusche, Šindelář, Haken, Vilis - Kallmann, Šarić, Klönschnack, Diáguez - Schukle.

Santa clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. It was obvious that team Santa had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. After some beautiful movement down the left wing, I. Pacci scored for Santa putting them ahead 1 - 0, after 29 minutes. The muddy pitch made the game a gritty affair, which seemed to suit P. Reusche just fine. The visitors refused to give in and, after 34 minutes, S. Diáguez evened things up as he finished off a perfect pass from the right. 1 - 1 The crowd groaned its disapproval when O. Osnabrück missed a free kick that would have given Santa the lead after 35 minutes. M. Lešnik was struggling to make the ball dance with his usual trickery and panache, and the opposing players had little trouble shutting him down in these muddy conditions. F. Klönschnack had a good try after 37 minutes, coming in on a fine move from the left, but the ball went wide. 1 - 1 was the score after the first half. Santa claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

O. Osnabrück would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. K. Lof entered the game for Santa as the match clock showed 46 minutes. After 48 minutes, the Santa manager redeployed his men. S. Ali swapped positions with Ç. Ahi. Santa's I. Lee left the field after 59 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was S. Etxeaga. Santa had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. Santa created a good opportunity to score 71 minutes into the match when K. Lof's hooked ball from the left created a scuffle in front of the goal, and the visitors' defenders had a hard time clearing the ball. As the 85 minute mark approached, the Santa coach decided it was time for a substitution. Y. Gaulsattler reluctantly made way for Ó. Canela on the pitch. Santa had most of the ball, with 53 percent of possession.

Santa's best player was I. Pacci. However, Ç. Ahi made a disastrous appearance. Most important Bremen09 player was A. Schukle. M. Vilis turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 1 - 1.
