previous 8/10 next 10/10  Jackets 0 - 0 Schwechat (392963987)

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Bluefield Road saw a crowd turnout of 1304. Alberto Vivas was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Julio Farah and Vincent Pesquet. Jackets decided to use a 5-4-1 set up. They fielded: von Petzold - Ernstsen, Dialektos, Sompolski, Agloupas, Wianecki - Ticozzi, Mandese, Suciu, Fröhlich - Hackl.

A 5-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Schwechat. Starters: Rovira - Pereda, Larizza, Zaragozí, Melena, Hinkkanen - Raith, Pöll, Rätzsch - Schwarzer, Neumann.

Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Jackets. Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Schwechat. With 4 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Schwechat resulted in a counterattack that set R. Pöll free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. M. Dialektos received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly 8 minutes into the match, probably out of lack of experience, and almost let an opponent score. 13 minutes into the game, Schwechat seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a wretched level of organisation. Schwechat's defence sent a ball soaring up the middle on a beautiful counterattack with 22 minutes gone, but S. Schwarzer's finish was met by the reaching hands of the keeper. Halftime score was 0 - 0. Jackets claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 73 percent.

The coach gave his players an extra tactical briefing during the break, and after that Schwechat had passable organisation. As the 61 minute mark approached, the Schwechat coach decided it was time for a substitution. R. Raith reluctantly made way for H. Wagner on the pitch. M. Bergmann was called on to replace Schwechat's R. Pöll after 80 minutes following a nasty collision. With 80 minutes played, Schwechat's R. Hinkkanen missed an opportunity to put his team one up from the penalty spot, later claiming that "the floodlights blinded him". Coming in from the right, Schwechat had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 82 minutes, but R. Rätzsch's attempt to finish was easily stopped. Schwechat mounted an inspired counterattack down the right wing after 84 minutes, but R. Rätzsch was unable to convert from short range. After 88 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Schwechat found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to inadequate. Jackets enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 64 percent of possession.

Jackets's top performer was clearly R. Sompolski. I. Suciu was a disappointment, however. Schwechat's best player was S. Schwarzer. However, M. Bergmann made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 0.
