previous 4/10 next 6/10  Indians 7 - 1 CHEP (393006051)

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 1391 to Ruka Stadium. Pier Giuseppe Marchiol was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Piotr Modrzejewski and József Kásás. Indians tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Bruffaerts - Gibouin, Cope, Willot - Vitakić, Clavijo, Drobnits, Pollmann, Pastor - Diéguez, Nilsen.

CHEP had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Lineup: Polan - Glöcknerwiese, Isasiguia, Karwei, Verdejo - Larraguibel, Rucalaf, Caravella, De Silva - Chiguaicura, Gomendio.

Indians used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Some things can only be learned through experience, and D. Drobnits should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting CHEP a goal with 3 minutes of the match played. After 11 minutes of play, H. Pollmann gave the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Indians to 2 - 0 as T. Diéguez finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. CHEP's M. Isasiguia was shown a yellow card after 23 minutes for slicing down an opponent. The Indians free kick 32 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of D. Vitakić, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 3 - 0! Things were going to get worse for the visitors. A. Cope squirmed through their central defence after 33 minutes, increasing the lead to 4 - 0. 4 - 0 was the halftime score. Indians claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 73 percent.

Morale on the visitors' bench was greatly improved when their D. Larraguibel reduced the lead to make it 4 - 1 after 48 minutes, following a pass from the right. After 60 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by A. Cope might have resulted in another goal for Indians. However, P. Polan made a spectacular save. D. Drobnits of Indians was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. The Indians players could smell victory in the air. O. Bruffaerts wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for A. Amor after 70 minutes. Z. Pastor left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 70 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. A. Mădăraş was the replacement. Cheers filled the stadium as H. Pollmann broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 5 - 1 to Indians. The players of Indians now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. Indians's C. Clavijo increased the lead to 6 - 1, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 75 minutes. P. Nilsen increased the lead for Indians to 7 - 1, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it! The coach of Indians was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 80 minutes, T. Paez came on for T. Diéguez. P. Nilsen became the new Indians captain. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, CHEP's D. Larraguibel was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 85 minutes. N. Araos was given a chance to change things around. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Indians, with 76 percent of the ball.

Indians's best player was P. Nilsen. A. Amor turned in a dismal performance, however. CHEP's top performer was clearly P. Chiguaicura. However, N. Araos made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 7 - 1.
