Due to an all-day shower, 39106 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at
Somerville Super Stadium.
EVILinc tactics involved an interesting 5-5-0 combination.
The following players took the field: Grassivaro - Schacke, Risse, Pestarino, Denkmair, Nikau - Oargă, Kotz, Prühn, Kovács, Leonhard -.
Freeformers started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
They fielded: Boucaut - Cohen, Freitas, Escoval - Florián, Waterman, Leal Soares, Seidinger, Zandberg - Borovinskiy, Van Lancker.
It was obvious that EVILinc were using their pressing skill as their primary tactic.
M. Pestarino didn't let the weather get him down and made some great moves on the pitch in spite of the rain.
The pressing tactics used by EVILinc were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times.
A. Prühn slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today.
EVILinc's talent at pressing frustrated the spectators as the game became a dire midfield struggle.
Freeformers's
C. Waterman was shown a yellow card after 39 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
The referee showed Freeformers's
G. Van Lancker the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
E. Leonhard's knee will be throbbing for days, but thankfully for EVILinc, he bravely continued in the match.
0 - 0 was the score after the first half.
Freeformers enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 59 percent of possession.
At this time in the match, EVILinc were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game.
After 65 minutes, the EVILinc coach had a quick word about the tactical set-up and decided to try another approach.
70 minutes into the match, the EVILinc manager wanted to try a new tactic, and the players loyally obliged.
With 74 minutes played,
M. Pestarino of EVILinc fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
75 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Freeformers substitution.
A. Monferrato came on for
T. Seidinger.
With the match clock at 75 minutes, EVILinc modified their style of play a little bit.
Freeformers's
M. Escoval left the field after 76 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
D. Gudauskas.
G. Van Lancker would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
O. Ménager entered the game for Freeformers as the match clock showed 77 minutes.
EVILinc's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends.
Priding himself in being an active coach, the EVILinc manager gave new instructions to his players after 80 minutes.
The coach of EVILinc wanted to try to change things around after 85 minutes, and gave new tactical instructions.
Freeformers had no available replacements when
C. Waterman had to leave the game after 85 minutes because of a pulled tendon, leaving the team a man short.
With 87 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending.
O. Ménager put the ball away for 0 - 1.
Freeformers claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 56 percent.
EVILinc's top performer was clearly
M. Pestarino.
On the other hand,
G. Kovács's play was disheartening.
The most dominating Freeformers player was without a doubt
C. Boucaut.
However,
D. Gudauskas made a disastrous appearance.
