Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
Tiquitito Tubi saw a crowd turnout of 40300.
Manuel Badorf was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Fredy Kronegger and
Mike Tober.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Sofia.
The following players had been chosen: Paulino - Vigil, Sanz, Kasza - Núñez de Aza, Lavín, Martínez Peón, Descoll, Schotman - Mato, Bollar.
Torre started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
Lineup: Paradela - Cardozo, Pardo Otero, Dolecki - Lobo Heras, Salas, Pocha, Colomer, Moreno - Biagioni, Bastardes.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Torre.
After a fine move down the middle
B. Bollar nearly gave the home side a goal after 14 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide.
The guests took the lead 15 minutes into the match, after a right-side attack resulted in
J. Lobo Heras scoring to make it 0 - 1.
The visitors'
R. Dolecki took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 22 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for Torre.
A couple of inches to the right and
J. Sanz's free kick 23 minutes into the match would have resulted in the goal of the year for Sofia.
It was 0 - 2 at the break.
Possession in this half belonged to Torre, who controlled the ball 53 percent of the time.
F. Bastardes was, after 59 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper
J. Paulino made the save.
Sofia's
M. Descoll left the field after 73 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
A. Monje.
B. Bollar was handed the Sofia captain's armband.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Torre coach let
T. Öhquist replace
F. Bastardes after 75 minutes.
The Torre players could smell victory in the air.
L. Paradela wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
F. de la Maza after 80 minutes.
Sofia's
A. Monje managed a superb strike from the left after 80 minutes that would have left goalkeeper
F. de la Maza without a chance, had it not hit the post.
The home side worked their way through the middle and almost got one back when
J. Lavín tried to sneak the ball past the keeper.
F. de la Maza was too alert for that!
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Torre, with 52 percent of the ball.
Sofia's top performer was clearly
L. Mato.
R. Núñez de Aza on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The most dominating Torre player was without a doubt
D. Biagioni.
R. Dolecki turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 0 - 2.
