A scorching day at
The October Stadium, where 57854 spectators were in place for today's match.
Ernie Farr was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Amadee Jentsch and
Alexander Funk.
Allstars started off with a 4-5-1 lineup.
The following players took the field: Landrø - Brekkhus, Rognstad, Valstad, Berg - Ravn, Solheim, Fogeling, Strande, Hareide - Ingebrigtsen.
Sonic decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
They fielded: Martinsen - Hansen, Simonsen, Evensen - Lia, Johannessen, Solstrand, Mathiasson, Fredriksson - Fàbrega, Corrales.
2 minutes into the game, Sonic wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
P. Corrales gave
I. Liessens a quick hug as he left the field.
The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Sonic's
I. Liessens after 2 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead.
Sonic's
J. Fredriksson made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 9 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line.
With 19 minutes played,
A. Fàbrega nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar.
A lovely run by Sonic's
I. Liessens left his markers for dead and should have resulted in a goal, but the finish went just wide.
The crowd was on its feet 33 minutes into the match, as Allstars's
F. Hareide found himself unmarked in front of the goal after a dash up the left side. He calmly put away the 1 - 1 equaliser.
Some mind-boggling play by
V. Solheim almost resulted in a goal for Sonic, but
J. Lia's shot rebounded off the post.
J. Lia came close to putting the visiting team one up 39 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
K. Landrø managed to tip the ball to a corner.
1 - 1 was the halftime score.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Sonic, with 52 percent of the ball.
J. Strande found it hard to catch his breath today in the stifling heat.
The guests almost went up by a goal after 83 minutes when
L. Evensen came through and shot from the right. The ball bounced harmlessly off the post, though.
With 87 minutes played
J. Strande almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide.
Sonic's
J. Fredriksson was dominating his wing and kept sending fine balls into the opposition's box -
A. Fàbrega managed to volley one of them into the net to make it 1 - 2 after 88 minutes.
Allstars's
I. Ingebrigtsen put his head to a high ball coming in from the right after 89 minutes, but the ball went wide.
Had it not been for one of the home defenders,
J. Fredriksson would have put Sonic up another goal 89 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing.
The home crowd cheered when, after 89 minutes,
T. Mathiasson's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day.
Sonic claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 51 percent.
I. Ingebrigtsen performed admirably for Allstars.
A. Fogeling turned in a dismal performance, however.
Sonic's best player was
I. Liessens.
B. Martinsen on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 1 - 2.
