It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 37733 that came out to De Stobbe. Bodomar Dinkelsbühler was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ivar Toresson and Štefan Hamáček. Emmererfje had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation. They fielded: Collazos - Sejersbøl, Hannabuss - Rabiński, Galli, Eloregui, Kędzieżawy, Aase - Krauhs, Genet, Inclimona.

DJVS started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Starters: van Eerdenburg - Sautière, Metz, Champion - Pieper, Ekkelenkamp, Slikkerveer, Berthold, Skalák - Lubberding, Iliev.

Emmererfje clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. After 10 minutes, V. Aase sent the corner kick right to J. Rabiński who headed it sharply past the keeper. 1 - 0! The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 23 minutes, V. Iliev broke through the centre and found himself alone with the keeper. J. Collazos made a great block, though. Emmererfje's F. Inclimona swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball. The referee showed DJVS's R. Lubberding the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The home crowd just couldn't believe it when V. Aase missed a penalty after 36 minutes of the match. With 38 minutes played, M. Slikkerveer of DJVS fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. With 39 minutes played, Emmererfje's F. Inclimona almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. The home crowd was dismayed when the referee called a penalty for DJVS after 43 minutes. J. Ekkelenkamp calmly took the shot and scored. The game was level at 1 - 1. Emmererfje's E. Krauhs tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders. 1 - 1 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to Emmererfje, who controlled the ball 56 percent of the time.

The terraces were silenced after 48 minutes when DJVS's R. Lubberding put the guests ahead 1 - 2, following an attack on the right. H. Genet wasn't much help defensively. His energy-consuming forward runs proved quite costly in the oppressive heat. Some fine passing in the middle of the pitch, carving open the away defence, should have led to a goal for Emmererfje, but V. Galli's shot went over the bar. The game was close to savage at times, and DJVS's M. Slikkerveer received a second yellow card after 79 minutes; his ticket out of the game. F. Sejersbøl's knee will be throbbing for days, but thankfully for Emmererfje, he bravely continued in the match. With the scoreboard clock showing 82 minutes, the inexperienced DJVS team fell into disarray. After 83 minutes of play, F. Inclimona evened things up for Emmererfje with an impressive goal coming up the middle. 2 - 2. The referee signaled a penalty for the home side after 85 minutes, amid vocal protests from the visitors. Emmererfje fans erupted in celebration as V. Aase rifled the ball into the the top corner. 3 - 2! Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Emmererfje, with 61 percent of the ball.

Emmererfje's best player was E. Krauhs. J. Rabiński was a disappointment, however. DJVS's top performer was clearly V. Iliev. On the other hand, M. Metz's play was disheartening. The match ends 3 - 2.
