previous 3/10 next 5/10  Santarem 0 - 5 Football (393055333)

44179 spectators arrived at Fabrizio Miccoli, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Jürgen Agner was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Maximiliano González and Johan Harder. Santarem started off with a 4-3-3 lineup. Starters: Esperança - Pursiainen, Mergulho, Marichalar, Mircan - Luc, Carvalhosa, Apostol - Andolfatto, Antunes, Edler.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Football. They fielded: Codispoti - Zwettler, Martínez Naranjo, Pires - Füllengarten, Ulhoa, Marado, Druţă, Vieru - Andreasson, Sá.

Santarem clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. It might be a while before the fans see Football's H. Ulhoa again, after he had to leave the field in great distress at the 17 minute mark. He was replaced by J. Parima. After 38 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Football was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options. 39 minutes into the game Santarem managed a counterattack, but C. Antunes took a soft shot from the left flank that was easy prey for the alert keeper. Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 42 minutes into the match left Football's N. Vieru completely free to score. 0 - 1 for the visitors. 43 minutes into the game, Football worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. The referee showed Football's J. Parima the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. After 44 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave C. Martínez Naranjo a chance to increase the lead for Football, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 2. Halftime score was 0 - 2. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Football, with 73 percent of the ball.

51 minutes in, Santarem's O. Mircan received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. M. Codispoti was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so Football's A. Silva had to come off the bench. Football increased their lead after 53 minutes when N. Vieru broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay. The coach of Football was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 53 minutes, A. Boselli came on for T. Sá. With 62 minutes played, Football put themselves up 0 - 4 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was G. Marado. After this, you could see that the players of Football were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. 63 minutes in, Santarem appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only passable. After 64 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed C. Zwettler to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 5. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, M. Mergulho got himself booked. The manager of Santarem was not happy. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from G. Marado after 68 minutes, and prevented Football from going up another goal. Football's G. Marado startled O. Andreasson with an unexpected pass. Unfortunately, the receiver was too stunned by the play to convert the perfect setup into a goal. E. Pires came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over A. Esperança but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. After 82 minutes, Football's A. Boselli fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! Possession in this half belonged to Football, who controlled the ball 74 percent of the time.

M. Edler performed admirably for Santarem. E. Marichalar turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Football player was O. Andreasson. A. Silva was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 5.
