previous 1/10 next 3/10  Flamengo 2 - 3 ANDRIOLO (393058058)

The 12000 fans in attendance at Maracanã were roasting in the hot sun. Arthur Assenjee was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Yannick Voser and Borislav Evtimov. Flamengo tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Ramos - Obiol, Garcia, Ponces, Jari - Salas, de Campos, Leal Souza, Azeredo - Gomes de Sá, Barros.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for ANDRIOLO. The following players took the field: Lucassen - Lobinho, Caputo, Penápolis - Fernandes, Dommergaard, Cunha Leite, Aganzo, Hasar - García de la Fuente, Rivas.

Flamengo were relying on their ability to counter-attack. The visiting F. Rivas was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 8 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. After 22 minutes of play, the free-spirited F. García de la Fuente decided to go for goal as he struck the ball from the corner of the pitch. The ball hit a defender in the face and bounced out of play. L. Gomes de Sá showed the skills that make him a real crowd pleaser as he, after 31 minutes, wove through the guests' entire central defence and put the 1 - 1 equaliser away. C. Azeredo knocked one home from a counterattack down the right wing, making the score 2 - 1 after 35 minutes. 39 minutes in, Flamengo's O. Jari received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. F. Rivas of ANDRIOLO had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game. H. de Paula came in to finish the match. Halftime score was 2 - 1. ANDRIOLO had most of the ball, with 64 percent of possession.

Although the whole team were struggling to impress, ANDRIOLO's M. Lucassen was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 46 minutes. A. Albano was given a chance to change things around. The bench was restless, and with 47 minutes passed ANDRIOLO's coach gave N. Lloyd-Reason the opportunity the player had been hoping for. J. Cunha Leite reluctantly left the field. With 61 minutes played, the visitors could have drawn level after N. Lloyd-Reason came through the middle, but his kick went wide. ANDRIOLO had a chance to level the score as E. Hasar suddenly found himself free in the middle of the box with only the keeper to beat, but he misjudged the finish, and only managed to hit the bar. Good work by the Flamengo defensive line after 64 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found M. Leal Souza alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. The home team will be cursing N. Lloyd-Reason for weeks; he finished off a great pass from the left, knocking it past the keeper without a problem. The match was level at 2 - 2 after 66 minutes. As the match clock reached 74 minutes, Flamengo's organisation began to suffer due to a lack of experience. As usual, P. Salas tried to use his strength and hard work for the benefit of the team, but the heat hit him hard and he couldn't keep pace at all. ANDRIOLO enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 70 percent of possession.

As neither team had managed to win, extra time was called. Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of Flamengo was able to get his message across, and raised Flamengo's organisation to solid. B. Caputo had a good try after 92 minutes, coming in on a fine move from the left, but the ball went wide. Some quick footwork on the left side of the field 96 minutes into the match left ANDRIOLO's H. de Paula completely free to score. 2 - 3 for the visitors. With that ANDRIOLO had won the game in extra time. Flamengo's top performer was clearly F. Barros. A. Ponces was a disappointment, however. ANDRIOLO's best player was H. de Paula. J. Penápolis on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 2 - 3.
