Gardner should probably have put his team up another goal after 15 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by S. Clanßen kept the visitors in the game. Grünspanien almost scored after a counterattack 16 minutes into the match, but A. Vierth took a shot from the left that landed harmlessly in the side of the net. With 18 minutes played, E. Brazier could have brought this one home for Blackeye as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. After 28 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Grünspanien found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to passable. Blackeye increased the lead as P. Axford struck to make the score 2 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. 2 - 0 was the halftime score. Blackeye enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 84 percent of possession.

The Grünspanien players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a solid organisation when the game started again.
