Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
Maracaná saw a crowd turnout of 2121.
Nassim Boukhtouche was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Bonawentura Ksawera and
José Mendizábal.
O Brasil started off with a 5-3-2 lineup.
The following players had been chosen: Küren - Guaso, Vinerbi, Turoń, Pyż, Miranda - Reves, Washimi, Gil y Gil - D'Ávila, Almeyda.
Rot-Weiß decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
The following players took the field: Feldmoching - Trompet, Kirchmeier, Alefantidis - Wildfellner, von Hallerhallerstein, Lessgewang, Hackmann, Uhlik-Kliemstein - Hopper, Kikoll.
A mistake by the home side's central defence after 2 minutes allowed
M. Hopper to score for Rot-Weiß. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1.
With 3 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience,
L. Hackmann needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed.
We may never know what
K. Alefantidis was thinking when he tried to pass the ball through a crowd of opponents. Luckily for him, O Brasil's
J. Almeyda somehow missed the wide open net.
With 30 minutes played, the O Brasil coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around.
R. Granollachs came on,
S. Küren had to leave the fray.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
L. Pyż from O Brasil a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 31 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
D. Wildfellner of Rot-Weiß had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game.
W. Fuchs-Kubicek came in to finish the match.
The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1.
Rot-Weiß enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 70 percent of possession.
A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from
K. Alefantidis after 49 minutes, and prevented Rot-Weiß from going up another goal.
With 57 minutes played,
V. von Hallerhallerstein of Rot-Weiß fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
R. Trompet came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over
R. Granollachs but overcooked it and hit the bar instead.
With things not going too well on the field, the O Brasil coach made the decision to swap the positions of
S. Gil y Gil and
F. Miranda with 75 minutes played.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Rot-Weiß, with 77 percent of the ball.
The most dominating O Brasil player was without a doubt
T. Vinerbi.
J. Turoń on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Rot-Weiß's top performer was clearly
O. Lessgewang.
W. Fuchs-Kubicek turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 0 - 1.
