previous 5/10 next 7/10  Holiday 11 - 0 Iguana (393092662)

2246 punters turned up at FC Holiday Arena, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Alhaji Botsio was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Rex McDougall and Gianfranco Bonvicini. Holiday tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Starters: Dragoescu - Panchev, Ñique, Şora - Sluijter, Bok, Pavia, Renfors, van der Hem - Castilho, van der Schrier.

Iguana decided to use a 5-3-2 set up. The following players took the field: Peña - Khotchenkov, Mushnikov, Rolka, Kaarninen, Malaychuk - Tentarelli, Zambelli, Speicher - Kashirskiy, Merino.

The wings were the focus of most of Holiday's attacks today. For their match strategy, Iguana had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible. G. Sluijter gave Holiday the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 1 - 0 V. Galkov was called on to replace Iguana's S. Peña after 25 minutes following a nasty collision. After 34 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and J. Castilho gave the Holiday supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 2 - 0. Almost all the way down to the corner flag, Holiday's G. Sluijter somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for J. van der Schrier, who struck for 3 - 0. Holiday solidified their lead at the 36 minute mark, as J. van der Schrier dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 4 - 0. With 38 minutes played, Holiday put themselves up 5 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to D. Pavia, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Holiday lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Holiday to 6 - 0 as M. Şora finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. It was 6 - 0 at the break. Holiday claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 73 percent.

The goal for 7 - 0 was a funny story: after 56 minutes the seemingly nonchalant lob from Holiday's V. Panchev landed at the feet of J. van der Hem who sidefooted it into the net - nice goal! Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Iguana's T. Kashirskiy was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 67 minutes. S. Frittoli was given a chance to change things around. Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 74 minutes, Holiday did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker, G. Sluijter was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 8 - 0. The referee showed Iguana's S. Frittoli the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Holiday were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings. The home side's J. Castilho came close to extending the lead 80 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but V. Galkov managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. J. Castilho increased the lead for Holiday to 9 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it! Players in Holiday heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead. After 83 minutes, J. Castilho put Holiday ahead 10 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing. By then J. Castilho had scored three goals - a hat trick! Holiday increased the lead as J. Castilho struck to make the score 11 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. The coach of Holiday was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 85 minutes, V. Brenes came on for J. van der Hem. Iguana's S. Frittoli refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 85 minutes. Possession in this half belonged to Holiday, who controlled the ball 77 percent of the time.

The most dominating Holiday player was without a doubt J. Castilho. G. Sluijter on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important Iguana player was S. Frittoli. However, V. Galkov made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 11 - 0.
