Atlético 8 - 0 Mulga
(393120162)

12-07-2012 03.00
Due to an all-day shower, 2589 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at
La Jabonera.
John Phillips was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Serafim Candeias and
Thomas Eijndhoven.
Atlético tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
The following players took the field: Vázquez - Putignano, Iorio, Ruiz - Sosa, Pérez Maldonado, Andino, Lopez Soria, Gerk - Casas, Ruiz.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Mulga.
The following players had been chosen: De Capitani - Cevenini, Ybarra Benjumea, la Lau - Insurandiaga, Cuppari, Lynn, Grabert, Braz - Otero, Reckers.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Mulga.
H. Sosa was struggling to make the ball dance with his usual trickery and panache, and the opposing players had little trouble shutting him down in these muddy conditions.
N. Gerk gave Atlético the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 1 - 0
J. Lopez Soria increased the lead for Atlético to 2 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
After this, you could see that the players of Atlético were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
P. Casas slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today.
After 37 minutes,
H. Sosa put Atlético ahead 3 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing.
Cheers filled the stadium as
P. Casas broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 4 - 0 to Atlético.
Mulga's
X. Otero was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 42 minutes.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as Atlético scored another to make it 5 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
A. Andino after 43 minutes.
Halftime score was 5 - 0.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Atlético, with 77 percent of the ball.
Atlético put themselves up 6 - 0 when
G. Ruiz broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Atlético's
A. Andino increasing the lead to 7 - 0.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
N. Ybarra Benjumea from Mulga a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 67 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
P. Casas squirmed through their central defence after 68 minutes, increasing the lead to 8 - 0.
M. Grabert of Mulga received a yellow card after 77 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
H. Sosa should probably have put his team up another goal after 78 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
P. De Capitani kept the visitors in the game.
Atlético claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 78 percent.
G. Ruiz performed admirably for Atlético.
P. Iorio was a disappointment, however.
Mulga's top performer was clearly
S. Reckers.
However,
P. De Capitani made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 8 - 0.
