It had rained all day, but 1498 hardy fans still made it out to Estadio Monumental El Dorado. Jakub Miskowski was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Nikolay Niyazov and Luis Cisneros. Athena clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. AC were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks. After 3 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as AC found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to passable. J. Nofre caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 7 minutes. This gave Athena the 1 - 0 lead. Athena's V. Butlieris left the field after 9 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was Á. Sánchez. A well placed corner kick from W. Vizcarra was followed by M. Bernhuber's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Athena, the score now 2 - 0. L. Tomodan could have put Athena up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 24 minutes. W. Vizcarra slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today. With 30 minutes played, D. Loddo could have brought this one home for Athena as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. 2 - 0 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Athena, who controlled the ball 64 percent of the time.

The AC players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a solid organisation when the game started again. Athena increased the lead as M. Bernhuber struck to make the score 3 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. 71 minutes into the game, AC had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to passable. Athena's top performer was clearly F. Choque. Á. Sánchez on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important AC player was E. Tatangelo. I. Delgadillo turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 3 - 0.
