previous 7/10 next 9/10  Swords 4 - 0 Aengus (393237074)

Due to an all-day shower, 48867 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at Swords Arena. Lorenz Curiger was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Arve Thunshelle and Igor Thöny. Swords started off with a 4-5-1 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Zeni - Sarubi, Poikala, Dumitrescu, Wedman - El-Seif, Alves, Silfwererberg, Koskelo, Văn Thụy - Treskin.

Aengus tactics involved an interesting 5-4-1 combination. They fielded: Black - Walsh, Blake, Mackey, Ewing, Fitzgerald - Lawler, Cammans, Costello, Evans - Galway.

Today, Swords's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks. 34 minutes into the match and the home team took a 1 - 0 lead after breaking through on the left. The scorer for Swords was A. Silfwererberg. Swords put themselves up 2 - 0 when A. Silfwererberg broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave J. Wedman from Swords a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 42 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! A loud groan was heard from the fans of Aengus, as R. Galway left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match. S. Empey took his place on the field. Halftime score was 2 - 0. Possession in this half belonged to Swords, who controlled the ball 66 percent of the time.

A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Swords to 3 - 0 as A. Silfwererberg finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. That made three goals for A. Silfwererberg and he was marked down for the hat trick. By now, the players in Swords felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. The referee showed Swords's S. Alves the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The player down was M. Mackey. The Aengus bench looked worried for a while, but in the end he managed to get up. Swords increased the lead as K. El-Seif struck to make the score 4 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper. T. Evans slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Swords, with 68 percent of the ball.

A. Silfwererberg performed admirably for Swords. M. Dumitrescu was a disappointment, however. Most important Aengus player was A. Lawler. However, C. Fitzgerald made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 4 - 0.
