18-07-2012 14.20
Clear skies welcomed the 244 spectators who had made their way to
Olympic Arena.
Epifanio Carloncha was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Emil Dehlholt and
Jens Ebelfeld.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Olympic.
The following players took the field: Kankia - Chrdileli, Butkhuzi, Carlsen - Beridze, Rouco, Tsamtsishvili, Fuentecilla, Chitishvili - Wibaut, Potskverishvili.
IBER decided to use a 5-3-2 set up.
Lineup: Otiashvili - Jgharkava, Abuashvili, Bornstaedt, Hricsovinyi, Silagadze - Sebiskveradze, Penz, Gencarelli - Jugheli, Babluani.
Olympic displayed their ability to play creatively.
8 minutes in, IBER's
G. Jugheli received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
Olympic's
H. Rouco was shown a yellow card after 13 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
A loud groan was heard from the fans of IBER, as
A. Gencarelli left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match.
H. Barragan took his place on the field.
With 18 minutes played,
I. Abuashvili of IBER fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
After 23 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as IBER found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to
solid.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
K. Carlsen got himself booked. The manager of Olympic was not happy.
H. Barragan came close to putting the visiting team one up 33 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but
J. Kankia managed to tip the ball to a corner.
The referee showed Olympic's
I. Fuentecilla the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
39 minutes into the game, IBER seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
solid level of organisation.
0 - 0 was the score after the first half.
Olympic claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 66 percent.
The coach gave his players an extra tactical briefing during the break, and after that IBER had
solid organisation.
52 minutes in, Olympic appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only
passable.
Olympic's
B. Chitishvili tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders.
65 minutes into the game,
G. Sebiskveradze finished off a IBER left wing counterattack, making the score 0 - 1.
75 minutes into the game, Olympic had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to
passable.
H. Rouco behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 85 minutes as he gave the ball away to
G. Sebiskveradze. Lucky for him though, there was no goal.
IBER's
Z. Jgharkava got himself booked for a foul.
87 minutes into the game,
K. Carlsen had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
A. Ghislanzoni.
Possession in this half belonged to Olympic, who controlled the ball 66 percent of the time.
Olympic's best player was
M. Potskverishvili.
A. Ghislanzoni was a disappointment, however.
Z. Jgharkava performed admirably for IBER.
However,
H. Barragan made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 0 - 1.
