The 1750 spectators at Olympiastadion were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Neil Haynes was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Corentin Guichard and Fabrizio Decensi. Bologna tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. They fielded: Stroe - Kim, Rañosa, Flitsch - Milone, Saracini, Mamalakis, Barakov, Buizza - Antonaya, Milliņš.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Whining. Starters: Solskjær - Ruud, Fidalgo, Golinvaux - Kaplama, Baldauf, Degerstrøm, Støle, Solberg - Barbaud, Danč.

H. Antonaya gave Bologna the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 1 - 0 Whining's T. Degerstrøm was shown a yellow card after 25 minutes for slicing down an opponent. A. Barakov of Bologna had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game. M. Medagliani came in to finish the match. Whining's L. Solberg got himself booked for a foul. Due to a severely mistimed tackle, H. Antonaya of Bologna spent some time on the grass writhing in agony before he could get up and continue the game. Several players seemed a little dazed by the warm weather, and were repeatedly tricked by the clever and agile M. Medagliani. The Bologna free kick 36 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of H. Antonaya, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 2 - 0! 42 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as P. Saracini broke through, making the score 3 - 0 for Bologna. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. L. Milone squirmed through their central defence after 43 minutes, increasing the lead to 4 - 0. By now, the players in Bologna felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. 4 - 0 was the score after the first half. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Bologna, with 76 percent of the ball.

H. Antonaya should probably have put his team up another goal after 47 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by S. Solskjær kept the visitors in the game. Cheers filled the stadium as D. Buizza broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 5 - 0 to Bologna. When L. Solberg made yet another studs-first tackle after 61 minutes, the referee was obliged to book the Whining player for the second time, sending him off the pitch. After 68 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by C. Rañosa might have resulted in another goal for Bologna. However, S. Solskjær made a spectacular save. After 72 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and M. Medagliani gave the Bologna supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 6 - 0. Bologna enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 82 percent of possession.

The most dominating Bologna player was without a doubt P. Saracini. D. Buizza was a disappointment, however. Č. Danč performed admirably for Whining. T. Degerstrøm turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 6 - 0.
