Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 42000 to
Rinderbachstadion.
Wessel Froon was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Dominicus van Beers and
Agostino Tesi.
Fortuna tactics involved an interesting 4-5-1 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Português - Eusse, Marte, Lakutijevskis, Ziegelei - Albert, Axinte, Mauthner, Hinterseher, Korchagov - Booker.
Don decided to use a 5-3-2 set up.
The following players took the field: González Pezuela - Fuchssprung, Photong, Sanfilippo, Gojenola, Bichler - Geurtz, Hauseis, Burón - Halkeff, Brusse.
Don clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
1 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Don substitution.
W. Mattick came on for
M. Brusse.
After 7 minutes
K. Korchagov made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to
E. Booker who shuffled it past the keeper. The score was now 1 - 0.
Fortuna increased the lead as
E. Booker struck to make the score 2 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Fortuna coach let
I. Kleinert replace
K. Korchagov after 16 minutes.
The coach of Fortuna was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 16 minutes,
R. Atlagić came on for
E. Booker.
E. Albert unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide.
R. Atlagić could have put Fortuna up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 33 minutes.
With 34 minutes played,
W. Hinterseher could have brought this one home for Fortuna as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high.
A counterattack by Don after 35 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but
H. Fuchssprung, coming in on the left, couldn't get the shot off.
36 minutes into the game, Don seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
solid level of organisation.
2 - 0 was the halftime score.
Fortuna claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 78 percent.
The coach gave his players an extra tactical briefing during the break, and after that Don had
solid organisation.
N. Axinte left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 60 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
M. Putick was the replacement.
With the clock showing 67 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Don resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by
H. Fuchssprung in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high.
After 69 minutes,
N. Mauthner sent the corner kick right to
R. Atlagić who headed it sharply past the keeper. 3 - 0!
Confident in their lead, Fortuna's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
Sensing defeat in the air, the Don manager directed
C. Gojenola and
I. Photong to change positions with each other. This was 74 minutes into the match.
Don needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 75 minutes
C. Gojenola made way for
P. Egilsnes.
The Don players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team.
With 77 minutes played, Fortuna's
A. Lakutijevskis almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net.
Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Don's
D. Burón was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 80 minutes.
J. Kower was given a chance to change things around.
R. Atlagić increased the lead for Fortuna to 4 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
Don almost scored after a counterattack 85 minutes into the match, but
G. Hauseis took a shot from the left that landed harmlessly in the side of the net.
With 86 minutes played, Fortuna put themselves up 5 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
E. Albert, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
Possession in this half belonged to Fortuna, who controlled the ball 68 percent of the time.
Fortuna's best player was
N. Mauthner.
J. Português was a disappointment, however.
P. Egilsnes performed admirably for Don.
G. Hauseis turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 5 - 0.
