Pijoki 1 - 2 Zalesie
(393419959)

25-07-2012 18.00
The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 49681 had shown up at
Diabelski młyn for the match.
Adalbert Lahstein was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Paweł Chabowski and
Marko Miklošič.
Pijoki decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Tzohar - Rostowski, Sanna, Vanc, Willocx - Pajewski, Elle, Yde, Silva Amaro - Gajowy, Simionescu.
Zalesie started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
They fielded: Kożuch - Prat, Taboada, Rożko - Rétlaki, Rychta, Murawski, Zalewski, Sigurpálsson - Bachanek, Goblet.
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Pijoki.
Today, Zalesie's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks.
Against a lesser team, Pijoki could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 13 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save.
Zalesie had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to focus on wing attacks instead.
Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 25 minutes into the match, and
Þ. Sigurpálsson wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors.
After the ball was lifted in from the left,
Þ. Sigurpálsson was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 33 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration.
Zalesie's
Þ. Sigurpálsson was shown a yellow card after 42 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1.
Zalesie claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 63 percent.
The Zalesie players could smell victory in the air.
H. Goblet wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
M. Galek after 47 minutes.
After 50 minutes,
A. Simionescu got through on the right and was very close to equalising for the home side, but didn't get the shot away.
62 minutes into the match, the speedy
M. Galek easily outpaced
S. Sanna, chipped the keeper and made the score 0 - 2.
By now, the players in Zalesie felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
Unhappy with the result so far in the game, the Pijoki manager used a brief break in play after 70 minutes to give the players new directives.
Zalesie came close to extending their lead as
Þ. Sigurpálsson delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 72 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting.
87 minutes in, Zalesie's
B. Rożko received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
After 89 minutes,
S. Elle sent the corner kick right to
P. Pajewski who headed it sharply past the keeper. 1 - 2!
P. Pajewski was ever so close to scoring after an excellent corner was beautifully flicked on by
S. Sanna, but the ball bounced off the post to safety.
Zalesie had most of the ball, with 64 percent of possession.
The most dominating Pijoki player was without a doubt
S. Tzohar.
However,
C. Willocx made a disastrous appearance.
Ł. Kożuch performed admirably for Zalesie.
M. Galek turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 1 - 2.
