previous 2/10 next 4/10  Kickers 1 - 4 Stuttgart (393424276)

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 643 to ArenA aufm Pott. Martin Höststrand was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Leonid Stambursky and Cyril Dayer. Kickers decided to use a 5-3-2 set up. The following players had been chosen: Oranienburg - Posadas, Plantz, Kiggen, Kulmitzer, Caillahua - Wirthl, Baschtarz, Lechermann - Ameen, Amin.

Stuttgart started off with a 4-3-3 lineup. Starters: Siburian - 岡本 (Okamoto), Alfradique, Garzón, González Arguimanes - Appeldoorn, Klingenspringer, Kivistö - Mejía, Karmel, Isaza.

For their match strategy, Kickers had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible. Given a free kick close to the byline, Stuttgart tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let M. Isaza slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 0 - 1, 2 minutes into the game. After 35 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Stuttgart found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to inadequate. Kickers's counterattacks were lethal to the opposing defence, allowing D. Amin to score easily from the right flank for 1 - 1. A penalty was given after 39 minutes, allowing the visitors to gain the lead: 1 - 2. J. Kivistö was the scorer. After 42 minutes, Stuttgart raised their score by one when G. Appeldoorn's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by M. Isaza. 1 - 3. Confident in their lead, Stuttgart's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. Had it not been for one of the home defenders, M. Karmel would have put Stuttgart up another goal 43 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing. Halftime score was 1 - 3. Possession in this half belonged to Kickers, who controlled the ball 51 percent of the time.

Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of Stuttgart was able to get his message across, and raised Stuttgart's organisation to solid. W. Siburian wanted to play on, but the Stuttgart coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 60 minutes into the game by B. Beşaret. 65 minutes in, Stuttgart appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only solid. The Stuttgart players could smell victory in the air. H. Klingenspringer wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for L. Schaden after 70 minutes. The coach of Stuttgart was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 75 minutes, J. Hegna came on for M. Isaza. After 87 minutes Kickers tried to exploit their counterattacking skills, unfortunately, H. Ameen's shot sailed wide after his break down the right. The crowd groaned when J. Wirthl, having maneuvered his way down the right, fired the ball just wide and missed a great opportunity to reduce the deficit for Kickers. J. Alfradique increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 1 - 4. With 89 minutes played, F. Lechermann was very close to reducing the score for Kickers with a low drive from the left, but a defender stuck his foot out just in the nick of time, blocking the shot to a corner. Stuttgart enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 55 percent of possession.

Most important Kickers player was A. Posadas. However, L. Kiggen made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating Stuttgart player was without a doubt J. Hegna. A. Garzón on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 4.
