Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 2403 to
Maracanà.
Abram Sulaev was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Fritz Botta and
Matej Margarin.
Rot-Blau had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
They fielded: Fumeaux - Hochstedler, Minder, Quondamatteo - Krueger, Vigna, Koopmanschap, Galmart, Hauenschild - Laporte, Stahly.
@BORGOROSSSO@ decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
Lineup: Salamonowicz - Bokflod, Valladares, Triboulet - Ronutti, Fonseca, Andrijanić, Cousiño, Troncato - Sivers, Goovaarts.
It was an obvious ambition of @BORGOROSSSO@ to use their ability at attacking on the flanks.
Rot-Blau took the lead after 15 minutes as a result of
M. Koopmanschap's peach of a shot from the right hand side of the box - placed beautifully in the top corner. 1 - 0.
Attacking on the wings was the choice for @BORGOROSSSO@, and they were successfully passing the ball from the middle to the wings to attack.
Some brilliant football from the visitors' right wing resulted in a levelling of the score as @BORGOROSSSO@'s
A. Cousiño put the ball in the onion bag after 20 minutes to make it 1 - 1.
After 27 minutes,
G. Hauenschild came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 2 - 1, giving Rot-Blau the lead.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as Rot-Blau scored another to make it 3 - 1 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
G. Vigna after 35 minutes.
With 40 minutes played, Rot-Blau put themselves up 4 - 1 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
N. Hochstedler, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
By now, the players in Rot-Blau felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
It was 4 - 1 at the break.
Rot-Blau had most of the ball, with 62 percent of possession.
The coach of Rot-Blau was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 46 minutes,
L. Inderbitzin came on for
L. Fumeaux.
S. Grob was called on to replace Rot-Blau's
G. Vigna after 48 minutes following a nasty collision.
With 60 minutes played, the @BORGOROSSSO@ coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around.
T. Jany came on,
V. Sivers had to leave the fray.
After 65 minutes, @BORGOROSSSO@ switched
Á. Fonseca with
A. Müllheim, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch.
C. Ronutti had a couple of good opportunities to reply, but the home team's keeper
L. Inderbitzin was simply unbeatable.
@BORGOROSSSO@ were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings.
@BORGOROSSSO@ certainly deserved a goal after some stunning play down the left, but
A. Müllheim just wasn't able to finish.
After 73 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
M. Quondamatteo gave the Rot-Blau supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 5 - 1.
Rot-Blau enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 60 percent of possession.
Rot-Blau's top performer was clearly
M. Koopmanschap.
M. Quondamatteo was a disappointment, however.
Most important @BORGOROSSSO@ player was
S. Goovaarts.
T. Jany on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 5 - 1.
