989 punters turned up at
Black Hole Arena, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came.
Mack Kaplan was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Daniel Jacobsson and
Jonas Nilsson.
MASS had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Starters: Dams - Azores, Lanslots, Rudzītis - Rodríguez, Kaftan, Tillmar, Hansson, Drouet - Herbaut, Archambault.
A 4-3-3 alignment was the formation of choice for vindicator.
Lineup: Langella - Mickoleit, Wollenhaupt, Barbat, Saget - Gendrot, Loustalot, Bourgeot - Marais, Kicki, Canel.
For their match strategy, MASS had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible.
vindicator preferred to finish off their attacks from a distance.
With 3 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 1 - 0 lead as
O. Hansson flipped the ball in after a cross from the right.
MASS's
B. Kaftan was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 14 minutes.
Unsportsmanlike behaviour by
B. Kaftan rendered him his second booking of the match, and MASS had to finish the game with a reduced squad.
With 16 minutes played,
J. Archambault could have brought this one home for MASS as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as MASS scored another to make it 2 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
J. Rudzītis after 22 minutes.
The players of MASS now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
A. Lanslots increased the lead for MASS to 3 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 0.
Possession in this half belonged to MASS, who controlled the ball 77 percent of the time.
After 50 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
J. Rodríguez might have resulted in another goal for MASS. However,
F. Langella made a spectacular save.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in MASS's
J. Tillmar increasing the lead to 4 - 0.
MASS put themselves up 5 - 0 when
J. Herbaut broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of MASS to 6 - 0 as
J. Archambault finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
MASS's
J. Tillmar had an excellent opportunity after 86 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles!
MASS claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 73 percent.
MASS's top performer was clearly
J. Rodríguez.
J. Dams turned in a dismal performance, however.
vindicator's best player was
L. Kicki.
On the other hand,
L. Bourgeot's play was disheartening.
The match ends 6 - 0.
