previous 3/6 next 5/6  SIG 0 - 0 Czakovia (393613400)

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 2858 to Hägli. Riley Finn was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Niek van der Vlis and Nicolas Tanguy. SIG tactics involved an interesting 5-3-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Losito - Galati, Fauchier, Weilnhammer, Eppelsheimer, Witt - Bösiger, Lopez, Paturaud - Gaiser, Püss.

Czakovia had chosen a strategic 4-3-3 formation. Lineup: Lunassi - Gadacz, Snyers, Korteniemi, Srebrzyński - Zub, Poggio, Jarząbek - Schliessleder, Meurice, Spasojević.

For their match strategy, Czakovia had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible. L. Poggio received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly 13 minutes into the match, probably out of lack of experience, and almost let an opponent score. Many thought B. Lopez ought to have been awarded a penalty 16 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around G. Lunassi after a determined run through the middle. Czakovia were able to draw a foul with their counterattacks, but the shot from J. Gadacz went into the arms of the keeper. The referee showed SIG's D. Witt the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. 27 minutes into the game Czakovia managed a counterattack, but L. Poggio took a soft shot from the left flank that was easy prey for the alert keeper. M. Korteniemi of Czakovia received a yellow card after 33 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. 0 - 0 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to SIG, who controlled the ball 63 percent of the time.

A counterattack by Czakovia after 52 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but R. Meurice, coming in on the left, couldn't get the shot off. With 75 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of SIG resulted in a counterattack that set G. Gaiser free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. SIG claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 66 percent.

Most important SIG player was J. Eppelsheimer. A. Püss was a disappointment, however. Czakovia's top performer was clearly W. Jarząbek. On the other hand, L. Poggio's play was disheartening. The match ends 0 - 0.
