previous 5/10 next 7/10  Chovo 1 - 0 Slavyane (393632297)

3172 spectators had come to Valleca Estedium this cloudy day. Sérgio José Saconato was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Grzegorz Czerbniak and Patrick Pastink. Chovo decided to use a 4-3-3 set up. The following players had been chosen: Ferrón - Josa, Vayas, Wamba, Miura - Marsán, Mato, Bazaga - Monroy, Arasa, Farinós.

Slavyane started off with a 5-4-1 lineup. They fielded: Dorawa - Šaula, Chernikov, Volosyanko, Laszczak, Timoszuk - Kryger, Saksin, Laukasz, Starčič - Francko.

Chovo took the lead after 2 minutes as a result of M. Mato's peach of a shot from the right hand side of the box - placed beautifully in the top corner. 1 - 0. Chovo's defence sent a ball soaring up the middle on a beautiful counterattack with 27 minutes gone, but P. Vayas's finish was met by the reaching hands of the keeper. The referee showed Slavyane's W. Laszczak the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0. Chovo had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.

Given a free kick in a difficult position after 58 minutes, Slavyane tried a variation that they had practised in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish. A. Arasa unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide. M. Marsán neatly controlled the ball after a short corner, and knocked it on to I. Monroy who had the whole net open before him, but only managed to hit the post. The bench was restless, and with 70 minutes passed Slavyane's coach gave L. Romanenko the opportunity the player had been hoping for. F. Saksin reluctantly left the field. With 70 minutes played, the Slavyane coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. V. Cherevatov came on, D. Francko had to leave the fray. Slavyane needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 75 minutes V. Volosyanko made way for K. Chruścicki. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Chovo, with 55 percent of the ball.

Most important Chovo player was M. Mato. X. Ferrón turned in a dismal performance, however. V. Cherevatov performed admirably for Slavyane. However, M. Dorawa made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 1 - 0.
