Tiefenbacher delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 34 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting. Hellers's F. Kopreit was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 37 minutes. 0 - 2 was the halftime score. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Casalotti, with 52 percent of the ball.

M. Thoenes challenged the visitors' central defence eagerly, producing a good chance 49 minutes into the game as he went for a through ball. But, as so many times before, the guests' defensive efforts got the best of it. With 71 minutes played, S. Teutsch of Hellers fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why F. Kopreit found an unusual amount of space for his snappy footwork. J. Gunselmann's lack of experience almost gave Casalotti a goal after 81 minutes, but the shot went right into the keeper's arms. The intense heat forced J. Gunselmann into making some errors because he couldn't seem to keep up with the others. 83 minutes into the game Hellers broke through on the left wing and W. Jauernig managed to reduce the lead to 1 - 2. 86 minutes were showing on the scoreboard when Hellers's F. Kopreit received his second yellow card and was sent off. Possession in this half belonged to Casalotti, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.
