The 3495 spectators at
Goodison Park were in for an afternoon of sunshine.
Vincent Laporte was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Mischa Edlinger-Zecher and
Peter Brandén.
Everton had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Lineup: Bosma - Ehscheidt, Brenne, Nájera - Lichtenhäler, Reynoso, Jensen, Robledo, Plavecz - Delarge, Bonaldo.
A 3-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for g_usta_s.
Starters: Kendall - Raz, Sing, Lunion - Mariş, Derela, Forrer - Kure Vidkjær, Talijančić.
g_usta_s used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
After 20 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as g_usta_s found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to
passable.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
O. Raz got himself booked. The manager of g_usta_s was not happy.
After 31 minutes g_usta_s's
O. Raz contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game.
Everton took the lead 32 minutes in, as
T. Lichtenhäler broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper.
33 minutes into the game, g_usta_s had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to
weak.
Everton's
M. Jensen increased the lead to 2 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 38 minutes.
g_usta_s's
E. Sing was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 39 minutes.
With 44 minutes played, Everton's
C. Brenne almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net.
2 - 0 was the halftime score.
Everton claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 92 percent.
During the break, g_usta_s's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to
passable organisation.
K. Kure Vidkjær didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Everton to 3 - 0 as
Á. Reynoso finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
Confident in their lead, Everton's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
As usual,
J. Delarge tried to use his strength and hard work for the benefit of the team, but the heat hit him hard and he couldn't keep pace at all.
g_usta_s's
G. Forrer was shown a yellow card after 71 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
C. Brenne's curling free kick almost found the goal for Everton, but the visitors' keeper somehow managed to get ahold of it.
83 minutes in, g_usta_s appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only
passable.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Everton, with 91 percent of the ball.
Everton's top performer was clearly
C. Robledo.
However,
G. Plavecz made a disastrous appearance.
g_usta_s's best player was
M. Talijančić.
D. Kendall on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 3 - 0.
