previous 2/10 next 4/10  Arsenal 0 - 3 Sokol (393787114)

847 spectators arrived at LK Arsenal Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Béla Kohárszky was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ignas Woelders and Gert Engelen. Arsenal tactics involved an interesting 3-4-3 combination. They fielded: Skoupý - Wesemann, Hegedušić, Boulet - Pich, Vujović, Majtán, Magaña - Aldasoro, Zapico, Bergman.

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Sokol. Lineup: Konderla - Brichta, Halík, Kříha, Slávik - Chudoba, Strapina, Kolář, Jána - Matějka, Joneš.

Arsenal saw most attack opportunities on the wings. After 2 minutes, Sokol put themselves up 0 - 1, as J. Kolář finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from M. Slávik after 18 minutes, and prevented Sokol from going up another goal. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, J. Halík got himself booked. The manager of Sokol was not happy. With the scoreboard showing that 32 minutes had been played, Sokol nearly put themselves up another goal after K. Chudoba came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. Halftime score was 0 - 1. Possession in this half belonged to Sokol, who controlled the ball 78 percent of the time.

While defending the Sokol lead, J. Halík got a new role. 50 minutes in the game, his coach ordered him to change positions with J. Kolář. M. Joneš sailed high above the opponents as he headed in a corner kick from K. Matějka after 57 minutes of play, making the score 0 - 2. Sokol's I. Kříha was shown a yellow card after 69 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Some things can only be learned through experience, and J. Halík should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Arsenal a goal with 71 minutes of the match played. Sokol came close to extending their lead as K. Matějka delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 75 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting. After 85 minutes, Sokol felt secure enough to make a tactical change. J. Brichta and L. Strapina assumed each others positions on the field. A drive down the left side allowed L. Strapina to get in close and score another goal for Sokol after 87 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 3. By now, the players in Sokol felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. Sokol had most of the ball, with 75 percent of possession.

Arsenal's best player was S. Bergman. M. Wesemann was a disappointment, however. Sokol's top performer was clearly K. Matějka. M. Joneš on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 3.
