previous 5/10 next 7/10  Jambi 2 - 0 Biezpiens (393796828)

Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 1940 at Calcigroms today. Bernard Dufoor was the appointed referee. Jambi had chosen a strategic 5-3-2 formation. Lineup: Merlo - Čuma, Maenza, Buluc, Kofod, Fudali - Jarmoc, Frutos, Weifenbach - Vaughan, Ondrušek.

A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Biezpiens. The following players took the field: Roze-Jumiķis - Krastiņš, Lēvalds - Vecpuisis, Ulmanis, Maeran, Kapelnieks, Legants - Ekerhovd, Bugno, Burger.

Jambi were relying on their ability to counter-attack. Biezpiens used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Biezpiens had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. E. Frutos caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 12 minutes. This gave Jambi the 1 - 0 lead. Jambi's P. Jarmoc swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball. The visitors almost came back with an equaliser 23 minutes into the match after a good combination down the middle, but when B. Ekerhovd tried to finish the attack, he couldn't deliver the shot hard enough to seriously challenge the keeper. It was 1 - 0 at the break. Jambi claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

With 46 minutes played, the Biezpiens coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. T. Haq came on, H. Burger had to leave the fray. Biezpiens's G. Legants was shown a yellow card after 52 minutes for slicing down an opponent. After 55 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by K. Weifenbach might have resulted in another goal for Jambi. However, A. Roze-Jumiķis made a spectacular save. Against a lesser team, Jambi could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 66 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. P. Jarmoc squirmed through their central defence after 76 minutes, increasing the lead to 2 - 0. P. Ondrušek could have put Jambi up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 83 minutes. Jambi enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.

The most dominating Jambi player was without a doubt P. Ondrušek. However, E. Frutos made a disastrous appearance. Most important Biezpiens player was B. Ekerhovd. On the other hand, P. Maeran's play was disheartening. The match ends 2 - 0.
