previous 2/10 next 4/10  Guitarra 2 - 1 Atléticos (393855109)

Clouds darkened the skies at El Big Band de peña as 511 spectators turned up for the match. Duane Manku was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Erwin Sabatini and Olav Kolbjørnsen. Guitarra tactics involved an interesting 5-3-2 combination. Lineup: Garza - Abreu Fernandes, Känsäkoski, Hucke, Berna, Vale - Puebla, Turnacı, Schulz - Paolucci, Rodríguez.

Atléticos decided to use a 3-4-3 set up. Starters: Llanquinao - Sandid, Cifuentes, Kirmanen - Gschwendt, Desidério, Ortiz, Govaerts - Catín, Tapia, Arizmendi.

Pressing was the tactic of the day for Guitarra. Atléticos tried to focus their attacks down the middle. 19 minutes into the match and the home team took a 1 - 0 lead after breaking through on the left. The scorer for Guitarra was S. Paolucci. With 26 minutes played, the visitors could have drawn level after A. Catín came through the middle, but his kick went wide. The pressing tactics used by Guitarra were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. Guitarra's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. Guitarra had no available replacements when R. Turnacı had to leave the game after 34 minutes because of a pulled tendon, leaving the team a man short. J. Sandid's lack of experience almost gave Guitarra a goal after 39 minutes, but the shot went right into the keeper's arms. 1 - 0 was the halftime score. Neither team were able to dominate possession this half.

Guitarra pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times. After 70 minutes Guitarra's U. Puebla contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game. Atléticos had a chance to level the score as A. Arizmendi suddenly found himself free in the middle of the box with only the keeper to beat, but he misjudged the finish, and only managed to hit the bar. With 74 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Guitarra resulted in a counterattack that set U. Puebla free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. A lot of people in the terraces claimed the penalty resulting in Atléticos's D. Gschwendt equaliser for 1 - 1 was a mistake by the referee. He did, however, have a very good view of the situation from his position. J. Abreu Fernandes of Guitarra received a yellow card after 83 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Possession in this half belonged to Atléticos, who controlled the ball 55 percent of the time.

As neither team had managed to win, extra time was called. After some beautiful movement down the left wing, D. Rodríguez scored for Guitarra putting them ahead 2 - 1, after 98 minutes. What a dramatic win for Guitarra! Guitarra's best player was S. Paolucci. On the other hand, L. Hucke's play was disheartening. Atléticos's top performer was clearly A. Arizmendi. F. Llanquinao turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 2 - 1.
