previous 1/10 next 3/10  1.FC 5 - 1 edinburgh (393972621)

2035 punters turned up at Bazaly, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Víctor Madera was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Palle Bank-Nielsen and Ed Romero. A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for 1.FC. They fielded: Černý - Skřivánek, Louženský, Czopowiec - Čejka, Valle, Věříš, Pustka, Iríbar - Pultar, Melzer.

edinburgh decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. Starters: Tatulli - Mandreoli, Peszeni, Gavuglio - D'Errico, Bakkli, Eckener, Hoşgör, Arruda Neto - Gentile, Casciotti.

1.FC used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. edinburgh clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. edinburgh had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 17 minutes in when K. Eckener came up alone against M. Černý who managed a block. E. Rožánek was called on to replace 1.FC's R. Iríbar after 18 minutes following a nasty collision. 1.FC broke through on the left 21 minutes into the game, with H. Pustka firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. The visitors refused to give in and, after 32 minutes, G. D'Errico evened things up as he finished off a perfect pass from the right. 1 - 1 E. Rožánek was in the clear after breaking the offside trap following a 1.FC counterattack from the left after 36 minutes. His neat finish made the score 2 - 1. It was 2 - 1 at the break. 1.FC claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 53 percent.

With 50 minutes played, I. Čejka could have brought this one home for 1.FC as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, B. Gentile got himself booked. The manager of edinburgh was not happy. K. Věříš caused mayhem in his own defensive line with some mad dribbles within his own penalty zone, but edinburgh's B. Gentile's shot went just wide. M. Louženský increased 1.FC's lead to 3 - 1 with a penalty spot cannonball. After 65 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and E. Rožánek gave the 1.FC supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 4 - 1. 1.FC managed to extend their lead to 5 - 1 when A. Melzer cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. The players of 1.FC now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. Possession in this half belonged to 1.FC, who controlled the ball 56 percent of the time.

1.FC's best player was A. Melzer. M. Louženský turned in a dismal performance, however. The most dominating edinburgh player was without a doubt G. D'Errico. M. Gavuglio on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 5 - 1.
