previous 3/10 next 5/10  Atletico 5 - 0 Salama (394029235)

3060 spectators had come to San Petorcìo this cloudy day. Thorbjørn Lønbæk was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Stefan Hofmann and Rolf Reseberg. Atletico had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. The following players took the field: Ribes - Orive, Koliçi, Vergne - Sali, Malfroidt, 宗龙 (Zonglong), Gherrini - Alègre, Buttafuoco, D'Autilio.

Salama started off with a 4-5-1 lineup. They fielded: Šedivec - Marcadet, Reißmüller, Mucknauer, Lekki - Lindhström, Fenninger, Aufhausen, Puccio, Bošiak - Reidenbach.

The Atletico free kick 2 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of I. D'Autilio, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 1 - 0! With 22 minutes of the game having been played, A. Lekki received a blow to the hip in a collision and was unable to continue. Salama, with no available replacements, now faced the prospect of finishing the game with a reduced number of players. After 30 minutes, J. Alègre put Atletico ahead 2 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing. Against a lesser team, Atletico could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 31 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save. Atletico's O. Gherrini increased the lead to 3 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 33 minutes. The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 0. Atletico had most of the ball, with 59 percent of possession.

After 66 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by I. D'Autilio might have resulted in another goal for Atletico. However, A. Šedivec made a spectacular save. Things were deteriorating for the away team as Atletico scored another to make it 4 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for G. Buttafuoco after 67 minutes. J. Alègre increased the lead for Atletico to 5 - 0, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it! By now, the players in Atletico felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. Atletico claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 56 percent.

Most important Atletico player was G. Buttafuoco. M. Koliçi turned in a dismal performance, however. Salama's top performer was clearly V. Reidenbach. On the other hand, S. Mucknauer's play was disheartening. The match ends 5 - 0.
