previous 3/10 next 5/10  Trübbach 1 - 2 NIBBIO (394032283)

Dark skies made the crowd of 2646 at Gufalons a little nervous, but the rain held off. Tobias Bogen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Péter Kámán and Stephen Lowe. Trübbach had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation. They fielded: Barnaud - Monaco, Giger - Messner, Duque, Bourquin, Lantai, Hensel - Paganini, Scheider, Ebben.

NIBBIO tactics involved an interesting 4-5-1 combination. Starters: Chiarenza - Rynkowski, Matinmikko, Nyling, Palomares - Mayence, Marica, Hinteregger, Dugalits, Lausjärvi - Wesierski.

Trübbach used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. NIBBIO were relying on their ability to counter-attack. After 8 minutes, a counter attack by NIBBIO was converted into a decent free kick opportunity. However, the indirect free kick routine was easily anticipated by the defenders. A textbook example of how to defend a free kick - the attackers were left with few viable options. Trübbach players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. The terraces were silenced after 21 minutes when NIBBIO's L. Palomares put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack on the right. 27 minutes into the match, Trübbach's A. Paganini maneuvered his way around the opposition on the left flank, delighting the crowd with his twists and turns. The effort paid off as the ball found the back of the net, evening the score at 1 - 1. With 28 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience, J. Hinteregger needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed. 1 - 1 was the halftime score. Trübbach had most of the ball, with 54 percent of possession.

Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 59 minutes into the match, and K. Rynkowski wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 1 - 2 for the visitors. 81 minutes in, Trübbach's F. Giger received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Good work by the NIBBIO defensive line after 84 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found M. Lausjärvi alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. Possession in this half belonged to Trübbach, who controlled the ball 54 percent of the time.

Trübbach's best player was M. Lantai. G. Barnaud turned in a dismal performance, however. J. Matinmikko performed admirably for NIBBIO. However, S. Mayence made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 1 - 2.
